Man Utd 'sent loanee complaints' as Sir Jim Ratcliffe gets culture warning

Manchester United are getting ready for their Premier League game against Luton on Sunday while it remains extremely busy behind the scenes.

Erik ten Hag’s side are on a three-match winning streak which has put them back in the race for a top-four finish. Although Luton beat Newcastle and Brighton and drew with Liverpool at Kenilworth Road, United should be full of confidence after an impressive 2-1 win at Aston Villa last weekend.

In the meantime, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is close to officially taking sporting control of the club after the Premier League approved his deal for 25 per cent. The INEOS billionaire has already appointed Omar Berrada as chief executive and work continues to try and land Dan Ashworth as sporting director from Newcastle. There is a lot to keep an eye on at Old Trafford. But thankfully you are in the right place and Mirror Football will inform you on all the latest developments here.

Complaints over United loanee

It is fair to say that Hannibal Mejbri’s loan spell at Sevilla is not going to plan so far. The 21-year-old midfielder left in January in search of more regular game time, but it has already turned into a bit of a nightmare.

He’s played just 36 minutes in all competitions for Sevilla and has fallen out with manager Quique Sanchez Flores, who blasted his attitude after his debut against Girona last month. “We are going to give him the necessary space to understand where he is, that he is at Sevilla and what it means,” he said pointedly. “He has to know where he is and we want to see him.”

Sevilla have reportedly received complaints about his behaviour and are not keen to trigger the clause in his loan deal to sign him permanently for £15million. Hannibal is under contract with United until June 2025, but his career is stalling.

Berbatov fires culture warning

United have hired Berrada and they are now targeting Ashworth, as well as Southampton's Jason Wilcox and Brighton’s Sam Jewell to overhaul their hierarchy. Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov thinks the appointments will be crucial to the success of the INEOS takeover.

"United nicked Man City’s COO and now they want to nick Newcastle’s sporting director," Berbatov told Betfair. "They’re trying to strengthen their boardroom. Obviously when you know which type of people can help the club at a director level, you identify them and try to sign them. Of course, you hope they’ll change the culture to get the right decision most of the time.”

Ratcliffe and his INEOS colleagues Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc have a lot of experience in the area. But there is still a lot of work to do for United to turn things around in the summer.

Keane names biggest problem

Ratcliffe and whoever he appoints to run United need to address the shocking recruitment that has blighted progress over the past few years, according to Roy Keane. UEFA’s European Club Finance and Investment Landscape shows United's players at the end of the 2023 financial year cost a combined €1.42billion (£1.21bn) in transfer fees, making them the most expensive squad of all time.

“The role of a scout has changed massively, compared to back in our day, where you’d have a scout in the North-West, one in Scotland etc., but the money available now, there’s no surprise that the scouting network has changed,” Keane said on the Stick to Football podcast. “The way Brighton have done it with their recruitment, and Newcastle, recruitment is key. Manchester United have had many issues over the last few years, but recruitment is probably the number one thing they’ve got wrong.”
