Katy Perry stepped out in London this week, visiting partner Orlando Bloom on the set of his new flick Deep Cover.

The Firework hitmaker appeared downcast in new pictures as she walked alongside Bloom and their three-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, plus their pet pooch. She kept it casual in a grey hoodie and long jacket, shielding her face with a cap and sunglasses.

She finished her glum get-up with a beige bumbag, walking with security as the family moved as a unit. Bloom seemed to be getting into character, wearing a white vest and long green coat, clutching what appeared to be his script under his left arm.

Katy, who recently quit American Idol as one of the show's most popular judges, looked noticeably emotional during the outing. Her low mood could be down to the recent passing of her longtime manager, music mogul Martin Kirkup, who died on February 4.

He had worked with Perry, 39, for nearly two decades and the California Gurls singer penned an emotional tribute to her late colleague on Instagram. "It's taken me a little while to make this post…something about posting it makes it all feel, final… and even though Martin wasn’t particularly fond of social media and its sensationalism, I must respectfully take a moment and speak on how special he was and is to me," she wrote.

"I say is because I personally don’t believe that anyone 'dies' they simply move on to the next dimension. They aren’t here anymore, but are now EVERYWHERE. Martin Kirkup was one of my managers at Direct Management for almost 20 years. He was the bulldog of our group – the one who always said, 'Show me the data, the P&L, the science, the facts!' If all else failed, he would just say, 'That’s ridiculous!' or some other cheeky, witty, eloquent one-liner with an English accent and all would be convinced.

"Martin was one of my protectors. He was vigilant about getting me what I deserved and celebrated the headstrong female I am. I have been so fortunate to have an INCREDIBLE team by my side for almost 20 years, before I had (as my father from Memphis would say) a pot to pee in or a window to throw it from! Martin, along with all of my managers, have literally fought day in and day out for my voice to be heard, and I have SO much pride, respect and admiration for my team at Direct Management."

She added: "I could tell he was excited for the future, and I was so glad I had that last moment to make him proud in my own little way. We didn’t get to physically say goodbye, but I know he knows how much respect and admiration I have for him, and his hearty chuckles and wicked retorts continue to echo through my mind."

It came after news Perry will step down as an American Idol judge after seven seasons as ABC bosses are not raising her pay packet of $30m and her hope to increase her family, claimed an insider. Perry also plans to release a new album and perform live in the next couple of years, which would be curtailed by filming schedules.

She shocked fans on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when she announced her departure from the reality series. She said: "I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol," responding to a question from Jimmy Kimmel about how long she plans to stay on Idol, adding: "I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat."

A source who works as a consultant on major network shows for ABC revealed: "There are three factors at play centred around her deal and her family. Katy enjoyed the best deal for reality in TV, worth around $30m a year. It madd her the (highest female star for reality and entertainment. But ABC do not want to up it after five years of increases. There is no wiggle room as the parent company Disney looks to be cost effective and keep spending down for the next couple of years. That edict comes from the very top. So Katy was advised the deal is the same and you are welcome to continue. ABC bosses know she is the one who draws the eyes to the show, but she also the most expensive."

The source continued: "Katy has always told her friends that having a bigger family has been a dream. She is 40 in the fall and loves her blended harmonious family with Orlando and his ex Miranda Kerr. But she would like a little sibling for Daisy. She came from a family with a sister and really felt that aided her childhood and growing up experience. She and Angela remain tight to this day. The other thing is that Katy loves how Orlando is such a super dad to his children. That has made her love him even more. She has learned from him how to balance work and personal time...one could almost argue that he has helped him really find a balance in her life because of his influence. And let's make this clear Katy is a really hands on mum, who likes to be there for breakfast and bed time for Daisy. Being away from TV recordings increases that time."
