A man is seeking advice on how to encourage attractive women to see him as a viable option to date. Posting on dcurbanmom.com, the man said that it seemed to him there were some men who, while not being attractive themselves just "have it when it comes to attracting very good-looking and/or sexy women", and he wanted to know what they do differently "from us regular guys".

He added: "Granted I am an introvert, I know my limits as far as the type of women who will pay attention to me. But I would love to up my game and would love to hear from men and women what these men do right that others don’t."

The replies to his post covered a broad range of opinions about what 'these guys' had, with some cautionary notes thrown in too. One person: "Money helps! Seriously, assuming the guy is pretty good-looking if he is smart, has a sense of humour and makes you feel like you are the centre of his attention can do the trick."

But another person warned that many of the men the poster was referring too were the fly-by-night types whose relationships were numerous and often soured not long after they had begun, while the women they attracted weren't much better. That person said: "The so-called attractive women that pay attention to them have issues of their own. These women want a trophy boyfriend/husband as well. Don’t envy these type of guys. You see a guy hot or not with a smoking-hot girl and you wish you were that guy – nope be happy you are not."

However, one woman who answered the question said that what had attracted her to her now-husband was not only his good looks but his confidence also as she first saw him making a presentation in front of a large crowd. They added that: "His command of the material and his confidence and ease of presenting it was incredibly impressive. Instead of standing behind a podium he roamed the stage with no notes and he really owned the room. I’m quite sure I wasn’t the only woman in that hall who was impressed."

And another poster agreed with the woman's sentiment, saying women liked men who were confident and thoughtful, who have a "take-charge personality", adding that the poster should: "Plan a fun date. Own the room. That's the root of the poster telling the story about her husband giving the presentation. Don't be afraid to try and look like you're trying. I find a lot of men have this whole kind of lame I'm not trying thing going on. Like too cool for school but it's just insecurity. Smile and act happy to meet people. Engage."
