Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United always needs to look for better as he challenged the players to keep the good-feel factor growing at Old Trafford.

The United boss was questioned about INEOS' growing influence as they begin to put their mark on the club. The Old Trafford club are already bringing in Omar Berrada as CEO from Manchester City while they're expected to land Dan Ashworth as sporting director from Newcastle.

Ten Hag believes you can always improve as the revamps continue and he will need the right support to succeed. He said: “I’m happy now in this construction when things change they will tell me.

“A club like Manchester United you can’t do everything alone, it’s impossible, you need very good people around you. I’m happy we’re there. Manchester United always has to look for better, never be satisfied, good is not good enough, always looking for better and try to do better every day.”

Ten Hag already held meetings with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford before they started their hiring process of trying to bring in the best in class.

United have turned around their form on the pitch recently as they are unbeaten in 2024 so far with three Premier League wins in a row against Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa.

That has given them a chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League as they look to continue their run against Luton on Sunday.

Now Ten Hag is hoping the players continue to match the ambition of the club after the arrival of the new investors lifted the mood around Old Trafford.

He said: “I think everything is always aligned with each other, we’re a club, we’re not an isolated department. For the mood of the club it’s very important the first team is performing, getting the right results.”

He was not drawn specifically on Ashworth but admitted a manager and sporting director must be on the same page. He said: “It’s very important you are one page about the football philosophy about tactics, the profile of players you need in a team.

“It’s very important to have good communication that you get the right players, it’s one of the most important factors to develop a good team that you have the right players, right characters, you have to get aligned.

“It’s a long process to get the right players in. I worked in situations where sometimes I was alone in charge, sometimes I had cooperation. I have dealt with several situations, but I think it’s so specific, especially at the top, and so intense with the number of games you need people around you who are on the same page, working on the same targets to achieve the ambitions.”

Ten Hag confirmed Luke Shaw is a doubt for Sunday's trip to London but has a chance of featuring after he was taken off at half-time last week against Aston Villa.
