Charles' fury over 'inappropriate' snap of late Queen and exploitation fears
King Charles was angered by photographs of his mother that he considered to be 'thoroughly inappropriate', a new book has claimed.
It's no secret that Charles was absolutely devoted to the late Queen - so much so, he could be incredibly protective. Writing in her new biography, My Mother and I, which focuses on the bond between the Queen and her eldest son, royal expert Ingrid Seward reveals Charles's anger at the thought of his mother being 'taken advantage of'.
Speaking about his reaction to his mother's famous sketch with Paddington Bear, which was shown during the televised Platinum Party at the Palace in June 2022, Ingrid reveals that he was a big fan of the piece - despite his concerns for that type of things. The sketch was filmed at Windsor Castle with the late Queen spending half a day filming the two-and-a-half segment. It was a surprise to even some of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

"He was, however, irritated when Angela Kelly, the Queen's dresser and later private assistant, persuaded Her Majesty to allow herself to be photographed looking like a model, with her hands in her pockets, something apparently she had always wanted to do."

One of those photographs taken ended up being used on the front cover of Angela's 2012 book, Dressing the Queen. And Charles was not at all happy.
"It was enough to incur Charles's wrath - he felt it was thoroughly inappropriate, however good the photographs may have been. He was protective about his mother and thoroughly disliked what he considered was taking advantage of her good nature."
Ingrid's book sheds light on the complex relationship between with her eldest son, Charles. It also examines how mother and son had very different upbringings, and claims that the late Queen was left perplexed by her son's lifestyle due to the fact he had always grown up as heir to the throne - and knew one day he would be King.
She writes: "The Queen never understood Charles' pampered lifestyle and found it rather mystifying, as by nature Charles is not a selfish man, but a life of being deferred to often stopped him considering others.
"He has no sympathy for trivial ailments and combats his own sinus problems by sleeping in an oxygen tent. Tiredness or oversleeping are not acceptable excuses for missing even an hour's work and he will never have a lie-in on a Sunday morning, even if he is feeling unwell."
