Manchester United have faced a backlash from fans on social media after sharing a birthday post to Christian Eriksen on Instagram with the caption "More life".

The post, to mark Eriksen's 32nd birthday, was met with bemusement from most fans on social media given the cardiac arrest Eriksen suffered back in 2021. The Denmark international collapsed during a match at Euro 2020 against Finland and had to be resuscitated on the pitch.

Fans wasted little time in making their feelings clear, with some voicing anger. One social media user reacted to the post by saying: "What the hell is that caption?", while another said: "Worst caption ever". Eriksen, though, clearly didn't take offence to the birthday post, with the Denmark international both liking and sharing it.

Eriksen returned to football in February 2022 after being fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device. He was released by Inter Milan as professional athletes in Italy are not permitted to play with such a device.

He subsequently joined Brentford for six months before completing a free transfer to Manchester United in the summer of 2022. He has gone on to make 63 appearances for United, scoring three goals.

Eriksen's first match back after his cardiac arrest came in Brentford's 2-0 loss against Newcastle at the Gtech Community Stadium. Despite the result, Eriksen was, understandably, thrilled to be back playing after his prior ordeal.

Speaking at the time, he said: "If you take away the result, I'm one happy man. To go through what I've been through, being back is a wonderful feeling.

"[Brentford coach] Thomas [Frank] didn't say much [when I came on]. I've been speaking to him every day for the last few weeks. He just said good luck and enjoy the game. You can never predict the game. I don't think anyone predicted we'd be down to 10 men so early. The guys did what they could. It was a good fight in the end.

"It's been very special since day one. [Brentford] have taken good care of me. Everyone's been really happy about it and everyone's been really helpful. Everyone is here. My family, my parents, my kids, my mother-in-law and some doctors who have been helping me back and forth. What they've been through is even tougher than what I've been through."
