A woman has been left cringing with embarrassment after her neighbour sent her an awkward note asking her to tighten the screws on her bed. She returned home to see the note waiting on her doormat, written by an anonymous neighbour who had heard enough of her bedroom antics.

Sharing the note on Reddit, it reads: "Dear neighbour. Hello! I want to go ahead and apologise for the awkwardness of this note. However, after a few weeks of being woken up at odd hours of the night and being tired at work the next day, I feel I must write.

"It would be really great if you would please tighten the screws on your bed. Unfortunately, when your bed is 'in use' it is very loud, from the bed creaking to the headboard beating against the wall." The neighbour goes on to explain how her college roommate used to have the same bed-related troubles - but claims they improved after getting the screwdriver out.

It continues: "All we did was tighten the bed screws and move the bed a bit further from the wall and the issue was solved. So, if you wouldn't mind trying that, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and again this is awkward, but had to ask. Sincerely, your neighbour." While most users couldn't help but laugh at the note, others made up their own jokes about it. One user said: "Husband comes home from working the midnight shift to find this letter on his door..."

Another user added: "More neighbors need to try this friendly, neighborly approach. I'm tired of the new protocol many people take of immediately filing a complaint with the apartment community." A third user said: "But I have been overseas on business for the past three weeks..." One more user added: "Definitely nice of the neighbor to offer a proven solution."
