BBC Bargain Hunt fans react as host issues message before credits roll

Bargain Hunt host Christina Trevanion caused a stir with a message issued before the credits rolled on it latest episode.

Christina was in Peterborough, welcoming two new teams - the Red team of father and daughter Nick and Sophie, and the Blue team of stepdaughter and stepfather Sophia and Kevin. The Red team, guided by antiques expert Catherine Southon, had to buy an "item featuring a mythical creature".

The Blue team, helped by expert Kate Bliss, were tasked with buying "something that comes in a pair". After much shopping and haggling, they headed to Lichfield for the auction. The Blues won, making a profit on each item and taking home £83 and some Golden Gavel badges.

But it was Christina's message to the viewers that got people talking. She said: "Now if you think you can do better than our teams today, then don't forget you can apply to come on the show via our website, or indeed follow us on Twitter. More importantly, though, join us again next time for some more Bargain Hunting."

"Yes? Yes!" she added as the teams and the experts then kicked the air together. On X, formerly Twitter, one fan said: "Some kick that" and another added: "Yes!" Someone else commented: "Applied twice and can but hope".

Last month, Bargain Hunt fans were left demanding for a rule change on the show. Natasha Raskin Sharp joined Red and Blue teams at the Ardingly Antiques Fair in West Sussex for another fun-filled episode. But, viewers were left less than impressed when one of the team were accused of breaking the rules.

The Red team was tasked with fining something related to the Arts and Crafts movement, while the Blue team were tasked with the challenge to buy an item with a Japanese link. Before the auction, host Natasha chatted with antiques guru Tim Forrester about his thoughts on each item's potential worth.

However, one purchase made by Red team members Jenny and Caitlin caused controversy as the brooch appeared to be "inspired by the movement" rather than from the Arts and Crafts era. Natasha admitted she was "loathe to do it", but had to disqualify an item for breaking the rules. Despite being bought for £90, the brooch only fetched £20 at auction.

This would have meant a £70 loss for the Reds, but due to the disqualification, they suffered a full £90 loss. Viewers were not pleased with the decision as one fumed: "Hate these stupid challenges and disqualifications, bring the old format back," while another added: "Aww that's a bit harsh." A third angry viewer wrote: "Really harsh disqualifying people's items. Leaves a bad taste in an otherwise fun and light hearted show". However, someone else disagreed: "Should have followed the rules then, big business this."
