A new royal book claims the late Queen Elizabeth II had a rather brutal evaluation of her grandson Prince Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle.

While the late monarch was known for keeping her cards close to her chest, she did reportedly make some strong comments about issues that were important to her. One of her close confidants, Lady Elizabeth Anson, said that the Queen was "a master of the understatement delivered in her best deadpan voice".

Royal expert Ingrid Steward for her new book, My Mother and I, which is out today, writes that Anson interpreted these comments as being revealing of the late Queen's real feelings. She claims the Queen labelled Meghan's wedding dress as "too white", considering she was divorced.

On comments that Harry was under Meghan's spell, she allegedly said he was "too in love".

And Harry and Meghan weren't the only ones subjected to the late monarch's "understatement". She also reportedly said Tony Blair was "too presidential" and said Marie-Christine was "too grand for us".

Anson, a cousin of the Queen, was a writer, socialite, and party planner who died in 2020 and was reported to be "the person closest to the Queen's life outside her own family" and "it was said they could finish each other's sentences" - per the Daily Mail.

Harry has written fondly of Meghan's first meeting with his grandmother. In his book Spare, he described it as "all very pleasant" and that the late monarch seemed "pleased" and gave Meghan a "warm smile" as she left.

Meghan herself has always spoken of the late Queen in glowing terms, saying to Oprah in the couple's bombshell interview of 2021, "The queen, for example, has always been wonderful to me. I mean, we had one of our first joint engagements together. She asked me to join her, and I went on the train. And we had breakfast together that morning and she gave me a beautiful gift and I just really loved being in her company".

My Mother and I by Ingrid Steward is out now.
