Mark Bosnich undergoes surgery after ex-Man Utd keeper complained of chest pains
Former Manchester United star Mark Bosnich has insisted he will be back to full health within days after undergoing surgery after suffering chest pains.
Bosnich had two spells at United after coming through the club's academy, winning the Premier League in 2000. The arrival of Fabien Barthez ultimately spelt the end of his career at Old Trafford, before he joined Chelsea.
The Australian then concluded his career back in his home country with the Central Coast Mariners and Sydney Olympic before hanging up his boots in 2009. Bosnich is now a pundit in Australia.
One of the broadcasters he works for is Stan Sport, who hold the rights to the Champions League. He was working for Manchester City's comfortable win at Copenhagen and Real Madrid's victory over RB Leipzig on Tuesday.
But the former keeper then revealed he would not be in the studio for Wednesday's games after being taken to hospital. But Bosnich has moved to reassure fans that he will soon be back on screens.
Marcel Sabitzer completes Man Utd transfer after last-minute deadline day dashThe 52-year-old posted a picture of himself sitting in a hospital bed in a gown along with the caption: "Will not be able to see you all tomorrow morning but will be fine by Friday. But join us here in Oz from 6.35am(AEDT) for Champions League Last 16."
His fellow pundit Craig Foster then disclosed that Bosnich had been taken ill with chest pains. Foster tweeted: "On air this morning for PSG v Sociedad without our mate. He had a big scare yesterday with heart pain and needed surgery. He’ll be watching from hospital this morning. Hope you’re feeling better mate. And to all us men, get yourself checked."
In a video alongside those comments, Foster said alongside presenter Max Rushden: "It is your friends Max and Fozzy here about to do the Champions League coverage without you. We miss you buddy, good on you for doing OK. For those of you who don't know, he hd chest pains, he's had a stent put in.
"He was exercising, he was making a lot of noise and he said 'I'm going to get it checked out'. He did and he's OK and he's back tomorrow. But we are sending you our love Boz. It's very quiet without you.
"It's probably a good lesson for all of us. If you're not sure about anything health-wise, get checked. Men are useless about talking about it and doing anything about it. The sooner you find out anything is wrong, the better it is."
Bosnich endured a mixed time at United, after he was brought in to replace Peter Schmeichel immediately after the club's treble win. But the Australian has since insisted he performed well despite his struggles.
"I wasn’t going to United to replace him; I wanted to win things. I picked up two trophies during my first season, including the Intercontinental Cup, something I had watched as a kid: the best South American team against the best European team," he told FourFourTwo in 2019.
"No British team had ever won that before. I knew in my heart it was pretty unlikely that Australia would win a World Cup, so to walk off the pitch that night knowing I was part of the best club team in the world was an incredible feeling.
"Alex Ferguson signed me twice. I wouldn’t be talking to you now about my career unless he had taken a chance on me originally. Yes, we had a falling out, but these things happen. He was a great manager to play under."
