Brit throws £250k Galentine's Day 'divorce party' in Spain using ex’s money

A British woman has thrown a £250,000 Galentine's Day 'divorce party' using the money her ex paid her in her first alimony cheque.

Joined by 20 guests at a lavish mansion near Malaga, the hostess hired British baker Debbie Wingham, 42, to make the 'world's largest Valentine's cookie' costing £20,000. While the identity of the new bachelorette remains unknown, a source claimed the entire event cost in the region of £250,000.

All the guests at the bash in Malaga, Spain, enjoyed a fancy dinner party with cocktails, joined in on a murder mystery game which included a performance of Cell Block Tango from the musical Chicago, and got to have an afternoon tea and photo shoot. They also received goodie bags, which the hostess referred to as "swag bags" worth £10,000 each - meaning the presents cost £200,000 alone. A source said: "Apparently the lady that commissioned the event said it came out of her first alimony payment and was money well spent."

Baker Debbie Wingham from Doncaster, who provided the edible cookie centrepiece, said it was made from 30 eggs, 600 edible flowers and a metre of cake lace. The giant cookie measured 1.5 metres and included a cast sugar heart for all the attendees that they could smash open with a Louis Vuitton axe, revealing a hidden message.

A source said: "The newbie bachelorette said it was the perfect way to mark the next chapter of her life and reaffirm the importance of supportive, uplifting relationships between her close female friends."

The all-day event took place at La Casa de los Bates, east of Malaga, Spain, and was organised by DM Promotions, a company that has previously held bashes for big stars like Rita Ora and Rihanna. The company's boss, Duncan McHugh, said: "We have done numerous luxurious events in the murder mystery sector, this was the first GALentine's girl power type event." He added: "It's really inspired us to explore other avant-garde murder mystery themes."

'Galentine's Day' is an unofficial holiday that was inspired by an episode of the sitcom Parks and Recreation from 2010. The day is considered to be an empowering occasion for women to get together and celebrate themselves and their friendship, as opposed to a relationship with a romantic partner. The term has gained traction over the last few years, with many people both single and in relationships, using the day as a special way to acknowledge their female friendships.
