Fans are convinced Conor McGregor will return at UFC 300 after a poster for the mega-event was released.

No main event has yet been announced for UFC 300 despite the event taking place in less than two months. UFC boss Dana White has confirmed that two more fights still need to be added to the card before it's complete. The event already features a women's world title fight between Weili Zhang and Yan Xiaonan and a 'BMF' title fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway.

Several former world champions are also in action but many fans believe the event is missing a household name such as McGregor. A picture of a fighter that resembles McGregor was released on the poster for UFC 300 as one fan commented: "No way, is McGregor the person in this image?"

"Can’t tell if that’s Conor or Dricus Du Plessis," a second comment read. Other fans then pointed out the fighter doesn't have any back or forearm tattoos, likely ruling out the possibility of it being McGregor. "Definitely Du Plessis, no tattoos on his forearms," one user wrote. "That's not McGregor, he's got a tattoo on his back," another user agreed.

McGregor has been pushing to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 300 but claimed his return will instead take place on June 29 to headline the promotion's International Fight Week. UFC boss Dana White rejected McGregor's claim by giving autumn as the new likely date for his comeback fight.

Chandler missed all of last year waiting for his fight against McGregor and is beginning to get impatient with the Irishman. He wants to punish McGregor for making him sit out by sending him into retirement as he said of the fight: "I finish Conor within the first two rounds and after that, probably end his career.

"I want battlegrounds of epic proportions, I want to stand in the cage with that man, I want to break that man’s will, I want to break his jaw. I want to separate him from consciousness, completely flatline him inside the octagon, and then we say farewell to the sport’s biggest star. Then we can go about our merry way."
