Tiger Woods begins a new era on Thursday as he tees it up without wearing Nike attire for the first time in his career.

Woods will debut his new clothing brand Sun Day Red at The Genesis Invitational on Thursday. Woods' appearance at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles is his first PGA Tour start of the year, and he will be wearing his new threads, which are produced by TaylorMade, his club and equipment sponsor.

Woods has worn the Nike Swoosh for all 82 of his professional wins, including his 15 major championship triumphs. But on Thursday, he will have a new logo on his chest: a tiger emblem which features an easter egg for fans.

The minimalist logo is made up of 15 stripes, each paying homage to one of Woods' wins at the majors, the last of which came at Augusta National in 2019. The brand's name is also a play on the iconic red shirts Woods has worn in the final round of tournaments throughout his iconic career.

In a press release, the newly-created brand said its name is split up because "there is a special power in threes". Not only has Woods carded thousands of birdie threes throughout his career, but he says the three words individually resonate with him, with his happy place being out on the golf course with the sun shining down as he chases victories in his iconic red threads.

The brand will also offer a selection of accessories, including footwear, gloves and head covers. The shoes feature the Sun Day Red logo etched into the sole.

"I have learned so much over the years and have a lifetime of experience adjusting my apparel and footwear to help me play better based on the way it was constructed," Woods said. "There are things that I could tell you that no one knew I was doing over the years. I'm ready to share those secrets with the world.

"Sun Day Red will embody a love of playing and competing, and we are for people that share those values, whether it's on the course, or in life. We will be anchored to putting the athlete first in the product decisions we make."

Woods split with Nike came in January, ending a 27-year partnership that proved to be a huge commercial success for both sides. However, cracks had appeared in recent years, with Woods turning away from Nike's footwear range, wearing FootJoy golf shoes instead as they were more comfortable in the wake of his many injuries and surgeries.

His final appearance in Nike attire came at the PNC Championship in December. The writing was on the wall, with Woods giving cryptic answers about his future with the brand in press conferences, while his son and playing partner Charlie wore a different brand throughout the tournament.

Woods is part of an all-star field at The Genesis Invitational this week, with Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland also teeing it up at the biggest event of the PGA Tour season so far. A purse of $20million is on the line, with 41 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking committed to play.
