Andy Murray has been targeted online after he sarcastically congratulated Taylor Swift on winning the Super Bowl.

Singing sensation Taylor, 34, appeared to be the main star of the show on the night as social media was awry with images and videos of the Shake It Off hitmaker in stands as she watched boyfriend Travis Kelce in action. It was a successful night for the new power couple Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers to win the prize for the fourth time in their history.

After the Chiefs' big win, Andy Murray, 36, took to X, formerly known as Twitter to take a snide dig at Taylor - something which didn't go unnoticed by her furious fans. Andy tweeted: "Congrats to @taylorswift13 on winning Super Bowl 58. A stunning performance."

Known to be overly protective of the singer, Swift fans flocked to slam the sports star as some even labelled him 'jealous' of the American singer. "Andy don't be ridiculous. Taylor was his support person just as your girlfriend turned wife was when you were playing tennis," one social media user insisted.

"Jealousy doesn't look good on you Andy," another fumed. "Why do you have such a problem with Taylor? She was there to simply support her boyfriend. It's not her fault the cameras kept panning to her and it's not her fault that she was all over social media. Give it a rest man," another echoed.

"Calm down Andy she did nothing wrong but support her boyfriend we have had to see your mum for all these years," someone else savagely hit back. While another Swift fan added: "Andy Murray, a tennis player who had never seen an NFL game in his life. Shut it and shut up."

However, other happened to agree with the sportsman as one fellow Super Bowl fan replied: "It's crazy how much they've shown her. You'd think she was the driving force behind the whole thing."

"Taylor needs to stop stealing attention from everyone. She's a 34-year-old woman. She could have sat this one out," another argued. Taylor was watching the game in the stands as she was viewing the Super Bowl from a one million dollar suite with Travis' friends and family. She was eager to catch her boyfriend's special night as she jetted all the way from Tokyo to make it to Las Vegas to attend the Super Bowl.
