Incredible footage captured on video shows a base jumper fly through the world's highest waterfall.

Vincent Cotte flips off the top of Devil's Mountain in a wingsuit during the daredevil stunt. The footage shows him plummeting shockingly close to the vertical cliff face - but he manages to veer towards the 3,212ft plunge just in time.

The astonishing footage, which was taken from his helmet camera, shows the torrent of water soaking him as he glides through Angel Falls in Venezuela. He lands safely after the jaw-dropping jump, which takes him to the mountain’s base after deploying his parachute. The eye-popping footage, partly filmed by drone operator Andrés López, was posted on Instagram. It has since gone viral with 1million views.

Angel Falls is located amid dense jungle in Canaima National Park and was first sighted by outsiders in the 1930s. The cataract is a whopping 500ft wide at the base. Andrés wrote: “I couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing as I watched Vincent Cotte descend with his wingsuit gliding past the imposing cascade of Angel Falls. But the epicness of this feat is how he crosses the water, giving way to these images that leave me speechless. A feat for the history books.”

What he did was absolutely insane.”

The dangerous sport has claimed the lives of many who dared to participate In June last year. The Mirror reported how a British base jumper fell to his death from an Italian mountain top. Mark Andrews lost his life after plunging more than 400m down a rock face in Trentino, Italy. The 65-year-old was originally from Redruth in Cornwall, but had been living in Bucharest, Romania, with his wife. He was a thrill-seeker and keen base jumper, but was killed instantly while at the popular jumping spot in the Italian Dolomites.

Mr Andrews was wearing his wing suit at the time, and it's thought he was wearing a parachute, but it remains unclear if he was able to deploy it. The English-born man had ventured to the site on his own, but it was another base jumper who rang the emergency services after witnessing the tragedy.

Italian media reports said another British base jumper had died at the same spot.
