Like most Premier League clubs, Manchester United had a very quiet January transfer window with no new signings as they attempt to balance the books amid Financial Fair Play concerns.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the club could finally be ratified this month, while Erik ten Hag's charges have also found some much-needed form. The Red Devils are unbeaten in 2024 so far, having won four out of five games across all competitions.

They are set to take on top-four rivals Aston Villa later today in a hugely important contest, with Unai Emery's side currently eight points ahead of United. With all that in mind, here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford.

De Jong could leave Barcelona

Barcelona are considering selling midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer, according to a new report from Spanish outlet Relevo.

It is claimed that club chiefs 'have doubts' over De Jong and that he is the 'favourite' to be sold if Barcelona's ongoing financial problems means they may need to sell one of their biggest names.

And United could make a move for the Dutch international, with Ten Hag making him one of his top targets when he was first appointed back in 2022. It is also understood that Ten Hag's interest in De Jong still stands.

Ratcliffe sent warning

Following reports Ratcliffe may look to completely rebuild Old Trafford, former United striker Federico Macheda has warned against knocking down the "magical" stadium.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Macheda said: "I would be against destroying the stadium and building it somewhere else. I believe the structure and the history of the place should stay there, and then make some improvements.

"Even if you build next to it – and I’m sure they would make it an amazing stadium – it's a place where all the fans enjoyed great games and memories. The first day I signed for Manchester United when I was a kid, walking inside the stadium gave me a special feeling. I'd never seen something like it. It's magical."

Solskjaer weighs in on Rashford situation

Former Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes Marcus Rashford has learned his lesson after the forward found himself in hot water last month over a boozy trip to Belfast.

Rashford missed United's FA Cup tie against Newport having failed to report to training in the lead up to the match due to illness, despite being spotted enjoying a night out in Belfast mere days earlier. Ten Hag was not happy and Rashford was ultimately fined two weeks wages after taking responsibility for his actions.

"I'm sure he had a wake-up call last week and hopefully that will spur him on," Solskjaer told Reuters when asked about the incident. "Is it the manager's job to get the best out of him, or is it mostly himself or any player's responsibility to get the best out of yourself? I think that's more it."
