King Charles has issued a 107-word statement thanking Royal fans for their well-wishes and support since the announcement that he was fighting cancer.

The monarch shocked the world when he announced on Monday evening (February 5) that he has the disease - after recently receiving hospital treatment for his benign enlarged prostate. The King has started a schedule of regular treatments, but has been advised to postpone his public-facing duties. The Palace has declined to confirm the type of cancer but confirmed it is not prostate cancer.

Prince Harry also returned to the UK briefly to meet his father – a visit that allegedly lasted just 30 minutes and did not bring with it the long-awaited reconciliation with Prince William that many royal fans are hoping for.

On Saturday evening (February 10), Buckingham Palace, His Majesty issued a note of thanks to the Briitsh public for their support since the sad news broke. It read: “I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days. As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.

"It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world. My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience. Charles R."

The shock news is the latest health scare to hit the royal family at the start of 2024, coming after the King’s hospital stay, the Princess of Wales’s major abdominal surgery and Sarah, Duchess of York’s diagnosis of skin cancer.

Buckingham Palace announced on January 16 that the King was to have treatment for an enlarged prostate, but that the condition was benign. The Palace announced the King’s cancer diagnosis at 6pm on Monday.
