The Isles of Scilly has been voted as the number one bucket list destination in Britain.

New research reveals that its the most popular places Brits want to visit. Famed for its powdery white beaches and turquoise waters, the Isles of Scilly is so beautiful it attracts the likes of Prince William and Princess Kate, who regularly holiday there.

The study by National Rail found the top 10 British bucket list destinations for people across the UK. Also ranking in the top three destinations were Edinburgh and The Lake District National Park. Many people who took part in the survey said they would like to visit these three locations at least once in their lifetime.

Also in the top 10 was The Tower of London, the Scottish Highlands, Bath, Stonehenge, Exmouth in Devon, and Snowdonia in Wales. According to National Rail, over half of Brits seek somewhere with a beautiful landscape.

More than a third look for places with historical or cultural significance or unique sites to explore. When selecting the location, some 42 per cent rely on recommendations from friends and family for their 'next adventure'.

The research also found when travelling to these locations, the train is commuters' favourite option. Despite the desire to travel across the UK, cost was identified as a "barrier" preventing many people from travelling.

Catherine Lyver, from National Rail, said: "Our top 10 bucket list locations, as chosen by the British public, showcase the very best of what Great Britain has to offer - highlighting our most iconic landmarks, remarkable scenery, and our rich history and culture. We're encouraging people to take a leap this Leap Year, feel inspired and enjoy some of the nation's most bucket-list-worthy destinations by train, for less."
