Christine McGuinness has shared her pride over the fact her father overcame his addiction to heroin.

The 35-year-old model took to social media on Friday to share the happy news with her fans and followers. Christine’s father, Johnny, had battled heroin addiction since she was a child - and put a strain on their relationship.

Heroin is a Class A drug - meaning it is illegal to possess or sell the substance. Those found in possession of the drug can be jailed for up to seven years and can also be fined an unlimited fee. While supplying the drug can lead to life behind bars. The drug is highly addictive and can be injected, smoked or snorted and carries the risk of death due to overdose.

Christine has been left overjoyed by the fact her father has managed to wean himself off the life-destroying drug. She shared a montage of images on her Instagram feed showing her father receiving treatment and them smiling happily together after he got himself clean.

She shared the video alongside a statement, writing: "For all the times Ive said what I thought was our last ‘goodbye’ Today was the best Hello... My dad is the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever seen him, my dad is off heroin. I never thought I’d say those words." She added: "If you love someone in recovery, never lose hope, its never too late. My dad is 62, he’s been an addict for 4 decades and now he’s a big strong 16st man! Dad, I am so proud of you.”

The post provoked a flood of supportive messages, with former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison among those commenting. She wrote: "Love you and your dad so much" - leading Christine to remark: "I’ve never seen him clean from heroin... waited a lifetime time for this... praying this is the start of his new life now." Another wrote: “I am so glad he is in recovery. Sending you so much love, a lot of heartache when a loved one is an addict.” While many other fans congratulated Christine on the happy news.

In 2022, Christine revealed she had reconnected with her father after struggling to watch him destroy himself with drugs. An insider told The Sun at the time: "Christine has made no secret of how tough her childhood was. It was very hard for him to read her take on his addiction in her autobiography. She always felt her dad chose drugs over her, but since splitting from Paddy she has reconnected with her dad. Christine has been visiting Blackpool a lot to see him and she's been building up relationships with other family members too, they’re closer than they ever have been."
