I didn’t know I needed another trench until M&S launched this unexpected statement piece that’s set to be the hero of the season.

It’s safe to say I’m in a committed relationship with the timeless appeal of a trench. I have the chocolate faux-leather number from the as well as a bright-pink cotton Topshop version and a while is firmly on my wish list.

The traditional cream/beige trench is having a real moment in 2024, and to find the best. But there’s a contemporary twist on the sophisticated coat that is coming for its crown - and it's made from the most unlikely fabric.

When I saw this new-in style from Marks and Spencer, I audibly gasped. Upon my eyes catching sight of the new-in Cotton Rich Denim Belted Trench Coat from the new spring campaign, I was a little conflicted. Did I love it? Did I hate it? No, this was deeper than that. I was obsessed.

I get it - this unconventional coat is going to be a bit of a marmite piece. It’s bold, daring and really makes a statement.

Combining the longline shape and smart double-breasted front of a trench with the relaxed and casual feel of your favourite pair of jeans, it's such a great way to update the style for the upcoming spring season. And if all the social media posts of Copenhagen Fashion Week are anything to go by, 90s denim is set to be a major theme in 2024, meaning this jacket could be the hero piece you didn’t know you needed to nail the hottest trends.

What’s more is that it looks so much more expensive than its £79 price tag, with keen attention to detail from the neat belt that cinches you in at the waist to create a flattering silhouette, to the cuff details on the sleeves and convenient side pockets for your essentials.

Plus, it’s a fraction of the price of similar styles from those ‘cool girl’ brands like , and

So new, it’s not appeared on Instagram or racked up any shopper reviews as yet, however, we’re really excited to see how fashion fans will style this piece. Marks and Spencer has suggested their wide leg jeans - which - alongside a pop of colour with a finished with a and (the IT shoe of 2024).

Alternatively, as seen in the Spring campaign, customers could commit the ultimate ‘fashion crime’ and go denim-on-denim-on-denim, throwing on the effortlessly cool coat over jeans and a . It might be a bit rogue, but I'm here for it.

But its lack of reviews hasn’t seemed to impact its popularity, with some sizes quickly selling out within days of launching. It’ll no doubt be all over Instagram in the coming weeks as the weather starts to get milder.

So if like me you’re obsessed with this unusual reimagination of the iconic trench, I wouldn’t hang about, else you’ll be wishing you hit ‘add to basket’ sooner and you’ll have that same sense of regret at . You can
