Man Utd lay out Ivan Toney transfer stance as Erik ten Hag eyes Tottenham target

January was a quiet month for Manchester United but that's because they're gearing up for a huge summer transfer window.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to officially be named a 25 per cent shareholder in the coming weeks, the INEOS chairman and his colleagues from the petrochemicals conglomerate are now in the process of taking control of United's football operations, taking power away from current owners the Glazers. Ratcliffe already has a plan to regenerate Old Trafford but fans will judge his investment by what happens on the pitch.

Transfer plans are already being put in place, but Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will have to choose his signings wisely while United balance their spending with UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations - if he's still in charge by then.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Old Trafford.

United won't enter Toney bidding war

Manchester United will refuse to enter a bidding war over Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who's valued at £100million, Mirror Football understands. Bees boss Thomas Frank recently admitted that Toney will "most likely" leave this summer, having returned from his eight-month betting ban by scoring two goals in his first three Premier League appearances.

Erik ten Hag has identified the 27-year-old as a potential solution to United's goalscoring woes, with the Red Devils netting just 31 goals in 23 league fixtures this term. However, Old Trafford chiefs won't pay over the odds, with Arsenal and Chelsea also competing for Toney's signature.

Ten Hag wants Tottenham target

Manchester United are ready to rival Tottenham for the signing of Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. The Netherlands international, 25, came to Erik ten Hag's attention in the Eredivisie before moving to Serie A in the summer of 2021.

Since then, Koopmeiners has become one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Italy, with his excellent passing and versatility standing out. Boasting seven goals in 26 appearances this season, Tuttosport report that alongside United, Spurs and Italian giants Juventus are also keen on signing him.

Martinez made decision to come back on

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Lisandro Martinez chose to play on despite suffering what turned out to be a nasty knee injury against West Ham. Manchester United fans were baffled when Martinez, who'd looked heartbroken after initially going down on Sunday, came back on after a few minutes of treatment, only to quickly be subbed off.

Ten Hag told a press conference on Thursday: "It was Lisandro's decision. It was impossible to diagnose in two minutes. He was not comfortable to be back on the pitch. He tried and stopped in the next attack."
