Former Apprentice star Ryan-Mark Parsons has detailed how to 'save' the show and questioned how long Sir Alan Sugar can carry on.

The programme's youngest-ever candidate has slammed this year's hopefuls and says the BBC is running scared of giving characters a chance after being frightened off by a year of 'chaos' in 2019. He accused them of playing it safe with 'boring' line-ups and said it won't be long until 76-year-old Lord Sugar's had enough too.

The first task of the series saw the candidates hosting a Scottish Highlands corporate away day and viewers took to Twitter to say "Please stop" as Lord Sugar welcomed his new candidates to the boardroom with what some dubbed "cringe" jokes. The hapless 18 hopefuls have been described as the worst group ever following an excruciating opening episode and outspoken Ryan-Mark knows why.

He told the Mirror that it's all too tedious and repetitive and things need to change before viewers switch off for good. "They desperately need to revamp the format. All these high-rating shows change it up, but The Apprentice doesn't. It's the same tasks every year. It has perpetually remained the same since 2005. There's been one change, when he changed the winnings to an investment.

"I still to this day remain the youngest even candidate and I think there's a reason for that. My year was so chaotic and we scared off those who make the show. It was front pages every week and it got more people watching. Since then, they've been really conservative with the casting. Look at them now. Boring, stale, and zero personality. They all look old, they all look miserable and they all look grey - it's all monotonous rubbish now.

"I don't know how long Alan Sugar has left in this. He's getting older, he's forgetting things in the boardroom and he can't keep it going forever. I don't think it will survive after he's gone. They might try and get Peter Jones or Steven Bartlett to replace him, but it won't ever be the same."

He feels the time is nearing when the former football chief should call it a day and adds: "Lord Sugar is synonymous with the show, full stop. I think he's only got a few series left anyway. He's worth five billion pounds or whatever it is. He's surely going to jet off somewhere nice with his wife Ann and enjoy his life. But the thing with Alan Sugar is that he loves fame.

"He wants to win a BAFTA for the Apprentice. He likes the attention, I think he's a bit of a narcissist! I don't blame him, but he revels in it. He likes the controversy, he loves the one-liners and I bet he watches the show every single week with joy, I bet he tunes in from his yacht at 9pm on BBC One like everyone else.:

Yorkshire sales executive Oliver Medforth became the first contestant to be fired after encountering some difficulties making a brownie. Viewers weren't happy with the candidates or the bowing down to Lord Sugar after making his 'unfunny' gags last week.

One took to Twitter to say: "Wish these sycophants would stop laughing at Sugar for nothing. Most of his jokes aren’t remotely funny" and as another wrote: "Ah yes, the annual competition to laugh the hardest at Sugar's unfunny jokes." A third simply put: please stop #Apprentice."
