Just as we pamper our parched pouts with lip balms during the colder months, our scalp deserves the same treatment as transitioning from low temperatures outside to warm central heating indoors can cause havoc for our heads. The frequent switch between cold and hot air can remove a layer of natural moisture from our scalp, in turn leaving many people quite literally scratching their heads on how to relieve an itchy and flaky scalp.

The Body Shop's ginger haircare range has received plenty of praise online for being a 'miracle' worker for those suffering with their scalp, so in search of a product that would help me with this common problem, I tested it out and I've been incredibly impressed with the result. Every time I feel that my scalp is in need of a little TLC, I use the ginger range and any dandruff I had is completely gone.

The haircare range includes a £3 shampoo, £3 conditioner and an £18 serum, all of which with formulas containing the powerhouse of ingredients when it comes to moisturising - ginger. Known for its purifying properties, these products also contain willow bark extract which works wonders for soothing the skin, and healing any sore scalps.

Just like any other gentle shampoo and conditioner, the ginger anti dandruff shampoo and conditioner can be used every time you wash your hair, with the serum being applied every two weeks or so. I felt the effect of these product having used them only once, with my scalp immediately feeling less tight, and looking free from flakes.

The scent of the shampoo and conditioner is naturally the scent of ginger and while it's not my favourite fragrance, it's not unpleasant and for how well it does the job of eradicating dandruff, I think it's well worth the sacrifice over more fruity or floral scents.

Available in three sizes, 60ml, 250ml and 500ml, a little of the shampoo and conditioner goes a long way so you shouldn't find yourself needing to replace the product that often. I've had the serum for over six months and I still have over half the bottle left.

I'm not the only one who has given the ginger haircare range high praise, with over 1,000 people rating it a 4.7 out of 5 on The Body Shop website. One person said: "I have had very bad dandruff for years and prescription shampoo has hardly touched it but this shampoo has almost cleared it", while another added, "after one use of the ginger shampoo, everything changed. I don't have an itchy scalp even when I leave my hair a few days longer to wash. The smell is great and my hair feels really clean even after I rinse it out. It's so good my son even started secretly using it a month ago and thinks it's great."

A third happy customer said you get "effective and immediate results" claiming it has "changed their life." They penned: "I’ve had two hair washes since and my scalp has gone from flakes falling out of my hair every time I moved it to basically nothing - in two washes! I will never use a different shampoo ever again. I wish I could go and find everyone with a dry / flaky scalp and give them this to try! My confidence has gone right back up to where it used to be."

There are other effective anti dandruff products on the market, such as Ameliorate Clarifying Shampoo which can be bought for a reduced price at LookFantastic, or the E45 Dry Scalp Shampoo that is currently £4.90 on Amazon. You could also try using a scalp scrubber to remove dead skin - this scalp massage brush is £4 from Boots.
