Inside Maya Jama's engagement to ex who asked for the ring back
Maya Jama and basketball star fiancé Ben Simmons decided to call off their engagement after a year together.
The Love Island host declared herself "really single" in January last year following reports she had split from Ben. She has since rekindled her romance with former flame Stormzy following their split in 2019. Maya kept her romance with sports star Ben underwraps for most of their time together.
She occasionally treated her followers to a glimpse of their relationship as she wished Ben a happy birthday in 2021. The TV and Radio presenter eventually opened up on her relationship with Ben this time last year following rumours they had split in August 2022. However, in the chat she revealed she'd only been single a month.

The couple are said to have struggled with their long-distance romance (mirror.co.uk)Speaking to the Sunday Times' Style magazine, Maya said: "I’m really, really single right now. Newly single. It’s only been a month... but it’s nice." Neither Ben or Maya officially announced their engagement, but the brunette bombshell subtly flashed her huge diamond ring on the red carpet of the BRIT awards in February 2022.
When quizzed by host Mo Gilligan, Maya remained coy but gave away her engagement secret as she gushed over Ben. However, after their split it was reported Ben asked Maya to give him the $1million (£800,000) engagement ring back. A spokesperson for Maya told The Sun at the time: "Maya received a request from Ben’s representatives on Friday afternoon, asking her to return the engagement ring that he gave her as a gift last year.

"This was the first time that she has been asked by Ben to return it and, for the avoidance of any doubt, she has never refused to return it. Maya is making arrangements to return the ring to Ben and wishes him all the best." Their relationship is said to have collapsed after trying to make their long-distance romance work between London and New York. It was reported Maya and Ben hoped to stay in each other's lives, as "there is a lot of love between them".

The couple were spending time in Greece, with Stormzy reportedly flying Maya out on a private jet to the £2,700 per night holiday back in August. Maya and Stormzy had dated from 2015 to 2019.
She went Instagram official with boyfriend by posting loved-up snaps of them both on her social media account. In a sweet video, Maya showed Stormzy picking her up from the airport as he held a cute handmade sign which read: "Maya Jama's #1 Fan." Maya and Stormzy have been looking every bit in love as they continue to make public appearances together.
The pair attended a red carpet event with each other for the British Vogue Forces For Change party in Mayfair in October. Stormzy has since given a rare insight into his romance with Maya in a recent chat with British Vogue. He explained: "We were so public the first time round. Somewhere down the line, my spirit started resisting… so I’m not gonna speak on it." The star then cheekily commented on the snaps from the summer confirming he and Maya were back together, as he added: "We were just living la vida loca. Lapse of judgement for an hour!"
