There's a certain type of morning grub that can help speed up weight loss, according to renowned TV doctor Michael Mosley.

Losing weight can be hard, especially when you're not confident when it comes to nutrition knowledge, but Dr Mosley, who popularised the Fast 800 diet, has shared his advice for "rapidly" speeding up weight loss with a common breakfast food.

We all know the classic saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and Mosley is on a mission to prove that's true, as he says you can lose weight through eating eggs. He revealed they can help shed a few extra pounds while dieting.

Dr Mosley says eggs are the key player in the popular Fast 800 diet. Designed to be used short-term, he shared his typical 800-calorie day on the diet and revealed: "For breakfast, I've got eggs and asparagus. I'm a huge fan of eggs, eggs fill you up.

"You can have scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, however you want them. Sometimes I have eggs with ham or a bit of salmon. No toast I'm afraid, plenty of tea and coffee, plenty of fluid. I would encourage anyone doing a low-calorie diet to drink lots and lots of fluid - because you're going to dry out."

In 2019, the expert shared a short-term diet plan for those who want to "lose weight rapidly" and it involves consuming 800 calories a day. In a chat with BBC Breakfast, the nutrition expert said: "I wrote the original book six years ago and that was mainly based on rat studies.

"Since then there have been quite a few human studies, and a lot of people have reported to me. I've also spoken to the scientists involved in doing that research, and one clear thing is mainly people did well on it but struggled to eat 500 to 600 calories. When you look at what they ate, it was more like 800 calories.

"This is a staged process - the first stage being rapid weight loss, on 800 calories a day. You do the diet for two to three weeks minimum, and some people continue to do it up to 12 weeks."

He then shared the science behind it and added: "A study based in the north of England, it was 800 calories a day, for up to 12 weeks, and the average weight loss was around 14kg. There was another study done by Oxford [University] and they lost 10kg over a year."

This comes after Michael Mosley recently revealed his favourite breakfast - a mushroom omelette.
