A crew member working on the set of Marvel Studios' Wonder Man series has died following an accident.

It's been reported that a rigger working at the Radford Studios in Los Angeles fell from a rafter on Tuesday morning, bringing a halt to production. The production wasn't said to have been filming at the time.

A Marvel spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement, saying: "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident."

An investigation is said to be under way from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. The union that is representing behind the scenes workers on the set, IATSE, shared a statement following the tragic news.

Its President, Matthew D. Loebsaid said: "Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues. Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can. The production of Wonder Man is set to begin next month following delays due to the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is the main star in the series. The storyline follows Simons Williams, who is a scion of wealthy industrialist in the comics. The plot sees his company lose out to Tony Stark’s Stark Industries leading Williams to work for the villain Baron Zemo who gives him ionic talents which see him gain extreme strength. Once an adversary of the Avengers, Wonder Man ends up teaming with them.
