Apple TV+ has unveiled the first trailer for its new original comedy-adventure series starring Noel Fielding as Dick Turpin. Launching next month, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin will see The Great British Bake Off star in the titular role as the legendary British highwayman.

Billed as an “irreverent retelling,” the six-part series will follow Fielding’s Turpin as he sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws. With his band of rogues, Turpin is tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde, played by Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville.

The series boasts an ensemble cast of British actors and comedy stars, including Episodes’ Tamsin Greig, The Winsdors’ Ellie White, Sex Education’s Joe Wilkinson, Friday Night Dinner’s Mark Heap and The Sandman’s Asim Chaudhry. They star alongside High and Dry’s Marc Wootton, Blue Story’s Duayne Boachie, The Outlaw’s Dolly Wells and The Mighty Boosh’s Michael Fielding.

Apple TV+ unveils trailer for Noel Fielding's Dick Turpin comedy seriesTurpin is known for his now-legendary criminal exploits in the early 1700s

Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer at the 2024 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour on Monday (February 5). It shows The Mighty Boosh funnyman as the masked criminal made famous by his exploits in the 1700s which ended following his 1739 execution for horse theft.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is helmed by The Inbetweeners director Ben Palmer for the first three episodes, while Inside No. 9’s George Kane takes over for the remaining instalments. It is written by Fielding, Claire Downes, Ian Jarvis, Stuart Lane, Jon Brittain and Richard Naylor.

The show’s official synopsis reads: “In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavours, including a brush with celebrity, all whilst trying to escape the clutches of the thief-taker.”
