A hero mum has died in a house fire after she bravely pulled two of her children from the flames, after she went back into the inferno to rescue her other baby.

Tragically Giovanna Cabrera, 31, and her baby were killed in the house fire in Houston on Saturday as she tried to save the infant.

The Houston Fire Department said Giovanna had led her 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter from the raging fire before racing back into the inferno to rescue her baby but she was overcome.

“She had him in her arms like the baby so like I know she tried. I know if she could’ve…she would have made it out,” her sister Giselle Bueno told KTRK.

“It’s still surreal. Like, I feel like she’s just somewhere else,” the grieving sister told KPRC. “Like I’m going to see her later on. This is, feels like just the house burned. Not, not, nothing happened to my sister or the baby.”

The local community has rallied round to organise help for her two surviving children. More than $24,000 has been raised through online funding to pay for clothes and other necessities for the children and to cover funeral costs.

“It is really nice to see how important she was and how everyone sees her as she was, because she was a hero,” Bueno told KTRK.

Houston firefighters will walk around the shocked neighbourhood today handing out fire safety tips and talking with residents about the need for working smoke detectors, fire prevention and home escape plans. It remains unclear what caused the deadly fire.

Meanwhile a pastor from a small suburb of Columbus, Ohio, tragically died alongside two of his children after racing into his blazing home to save the children as they slept upstairs.

Mark Robinette rushed into the home on Tuesday, Jan. 23, after he realised that two of his sons were missing — 17-year-old Gideon and 10-year-old Liam. All three tragically died in the blaze, but his other six children and wife Andrea were able to make it out safely.
