A Celebrity Big Brother and X Factor star has been rushed to hospital after speaking out about their "exhausting" illness.

Amelia Lily has a chronic illness and the 29-year-old was taken to A&E. The reality star took to her social media to share the worrying update with her fans. Amelia, who has diabetes, was the runner up on Celebrity Big Brother in 2017. She shared a snap from inside the hospital as she told her followers: "Been in the hospital for over 2 hours.

"Being diabetic is exhausting sometimes on us mentally. All of you that have it know what I mean." The singer rose to fame on the X Factor back in 2011, where she reached the finals. She competed alongside the likes of Little Mix and runner-up Marcus Collins, on the ITV show.

Last year Amelia opened up on her health as she revealed pain sometimes keeps her awake at night. She took to her Instagram account where she shared how she had a shoulder injury seven years ago. Amelia has called on others who have faced a similar problem to give any recommendation, with her saying in the post that "any help would be massively appreciated".

The performer said: "I've been suffering with a shoulder injury now since 2016 and it's got worse and worse. [I've] had sports massages [and] acupuncture. I've had scans and x-rays and was diagnosed with a problem but my only options were physio, steroid injections and pain killers."

Amelia said steroid injections "won't stop the ongoing problem" as she told her fans that at times she is unable to sleep because of the pain. She wrote: "The pain literally keeps me awake all night sometimes." She concluded by asking for advice, writing: "Can anybody at all with a similar problem please recommend anything? Literally any help would be massively appreciated."

The X Factor star was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 3-years-old. Amelia previously opened up about the condition as she admitted she thought it made her stronger. She told The Sun: "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't hard at times and I think any diabetic would agree with me. But it does get easier and it becomes part of your daily routine. You have to stay on the ball to keep yourself healthy."

Amelia admitted she asked herself 'why me' for years as she can't go a single day without taking an injection. However she added that it has made her stronger. There are 2 main types of diabetes, and according to the NHS, type 1 diabetes is a lifelong condition where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes is where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body's cells do not react to insulin properly.

After placing third in the singing competition, Amelia released her debut single You Bring Me Joy in 2012. The song peaked at Number 2 in the UK Singles Chart at the time. Amelia went on to star in Celebrity Big Brother where she was runner-up behind the late Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding.

She has also appeared in theatre productions such as Shrek the Musical and later went on to join the cast of MTV reality series Geordie Shore back in 2020.
