King Charles 'hidden message' with last photo before cancer made public

On Monday evening came some upsetting news from Buckingham Palace - King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

The announcement confirmed that it was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King has already started treatment and has been advised by his doctors to postpone public-facing duties for the time being.

The statement from the palace was shared on social media, alongside a new photo of the monarch. The image sees Charles standing confidently dressed in a suit by an open window at the Palace.

It was chosen with purpose. Asked about the image, former royal correspondent Jennie Bond told : "This was carefully choreographed probably yesterday, deliberate attempt by the King and the Palace to show that he is ok, that we mustn't worry too much."

The Palace has not revealed what kind of cancer the King has, or where he is receiving treatment but said he began a "schedule of regular treatments" on Monday.

No further details are being shared at this stage, except to confirm that His Majesty does not have prostate cancer.

It's been revealed that King Charles personally told his children and the rest of the Royal Family about - including his youngest son, .

The King wanted to tell the Prince and Princess of Wales, and his siblings - Prince Andrew, Princess Anne and Prince Edward - the news himself. It is not known when he told them. He is also speaking to his oldest son and heir regularly, with a source close to saying: "The Prince of Wales is in regular contact with his father."

Harry, meanwhile, was seen arriving at LAX on Monday evening to catch a flight back to the UK. He is travelling alone, with Meghan Markle remaining at home in Montecito with their children.

Meanwhile, palace sources have stressed that Charles’ condition is not typical and his secondary diagnosis and treatment plan have not yet been confirmed by doctors.

Monday's statement issued by read in full: "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
