There's nothing quite like the excitement of laying down a brand new rug, but the delicate home decoration can soon turn into an annoyance when its corners begin curling up.

Rugs can turn up for several reasons from materials used, how the rug was made, and how it is looked after. On top of that, rugs can often be quite costly, and in this current financial climate, forking out on a new rug often is an expense we could do without.

A Rugs Direct expert said: "Your rug's corners could be curling because of exposure to high humidity or an accidental spill on the corner of the rug, as the rug dries, it sometimes shrinks at the wet areas and causes the corners to curl."

A DIY lover and interior design expert has come up with the ultimate tip for flattening your rug corners. She shared a how-to video on her TikTok page @JenniferLauraLiving where she has raked in over four million views on the video clip.

All you will need is a glass cup and some ice cubes. The trick works within minutes.

Advising what to do, Jennifer said; "Put some ice cubes right at the corner, put the cup there. Here's my rug with the curly edges. Apparently you take a cup and put it on the corner and then take ice and put it all around the cup like this. And now we wait."

Jennifer waited until the ice was melted then went to check if it worked. "It's pretty good," she said.

A number of people reacted to the video. One individual said: "I've done the same thing with an ice pack and a weight. It works fine for me."

Others suggested additional ideas to help keep rug corners down. One individual said: "I just curl it the opposite direction for a bit." Another added: "Look up carpet tape - a roll will last you several moves. It works perfect and keeps the rug in place in the corners down."

Another commented: "I use command strips on the corners of my rugs. It works."
