Trigger Point's Vicky McClure speaks out after blunder has fans screaming at TV
Vicky McClure has finally spoken out after a blunder on Trigger Point left fans 'screaming at the TV'.
Lana Washington - played by Vicky - is back in London for the new series of the hotly anticipated ITV drama. She had been out in Estonia training those heading to the Ukrainian front line but returned to the UK, where her presentation about the terror threat facing London ended up being interrupted by a huge terror incident just a few minutes away from where she was.
The second episode aired this evening, with fans eagerly awaiting the latest episode. However, there was one part of it that left fans reeling as the show made its return - and angry viewers took to Twitter to fume over Lana's decision.
One wrote: "I’m loving series 2 of #triggerpoint but I’ve noticed how Lana takes her helmet off just as she’s about to deal with high explosives / fiddle with bombs," whilst a second added: "Lana puts bomb proof helmet on. Enters room. Finds bomb. Removes helmet. #TriggerPoint." A third shared: "Why did she take her helmet off though, when deactivating a bomb - surely that’s a bit daft?"
However, Vicky has now spoken out to explain why Lana takes off her helmet each time.
Lionesses Euro hero Jill Scott aims for hattrick of triumphs in Soccer Aid clashSpeaking to The Mirror and other press, she explained: "The helmet thing was a big thing last time – everyone was screaming at the telly asking why on earth Lana was taking her helmet off in dangerous situations.
"I had to keep explaining that if she kept it on and the bomb went off that close it wouldn’t protect her. If she takes it off, it is less distracting and won’t knock a potential device or obscure her vision."
She was also given a choice to wear a lighter costume version of the uniform for the role, or to wear the actual uniform supplied to expos, which is very heavy to wear and 'not comfy' at all.
"It's not comfy. It's warm and I hate being cold so that I am always grateful for. There was a choice this season where costume said, 'We could make something for you', because it's so incredibly heavy. I said no, I just feel like I'm an actor, when they shout cut I can just take the helmet off. I think it's important for us to show the real deal," she explained of why she made that choice, "The gear wasn't as accessible for women as most of those uniforms are typically made for men."
