Gerrard brings in reinforcements

Steven Gerrard has brought in former Bristol City and Charlton manager Dean Holden to work alongside him at Al-Ettifaq.

The 44-year-old has lots of experience, having coached for a decade. He has managed Oldham, Bristol City and Charlton and spent time as caretaker at Stoke City.

A former right-back for clubs including Oldham, Peterborough, Falkirk and Shrewsbury, Holden has worked under Lee Johnson and Michael O’Neil as assistant previously. His most recent job came at Charlton, where he won just 12 out of 32 games between December 2022 and August 2023.

DONE DEAL: Spurs sign Bergvall

Tottenham have announced the signing of Lucas Bergvall from Swedish side Djurgarden.

The 18-year-old has signed until June 2029, but will only join the club in July. He had been scouted by 10 big European clubs and Barcelona thought they had got their man, only for Spurs to pounce.

DONE DEAL: Fulham's Vinicius moves to Turkey

Fulham striker Carlos Vinicius has joined Galatasaray on loan until the end of the season.

The Brazilian joins Serge Aurier in Istanbul after he moved from Nottingham Forest on a permanent deal earlier today.

Rakitic settles into life in Saudi Arabia

Ivan Rakitic has moved from Sevilla to Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League.

The 35-year-old midfielder has traded southern Spain for Riyadh and the riches that entails. Al-Shabab were also linked with Newcastle's Miguel Almiron and free agent David de Gea, but only landed Rakitic in the end.

Pochettino insists Broja decision the right one

Mauricio Pochettino is confident that letting Armando Broja go on loan to Fulham was the right decision, despite Chelsea's lack of fire power up front.

"I think it is important to recover Christopher [Nkunku] and today arrived Nico Jackson, and then also sometimes we forget but Deivid Washington is here with us," he said today. "The options we have up front, I think, is enough."

DONE DEAL: Forest's Aurier signs for Galatasaray

Serge Aurier has left Nottingham Forest for Galatasaray on a permanent deal.

The 31-year-old right-back joined Forest in September 2022 and made 41 appearances for the club, including 13 this season. He is currently away on international duty, playing for hosts Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

His departure helps the club trim Forest's gigantic squad.

DONE DEAL: Fornals leaves West Ham for Real Betis

As if by magic, West Ham have now confirmed that Pablo Fornals is indeed off to Real Betis.

The 27-year-old midfielder leaves for an undisclosed fee - reportedly around £7million. He spent four and a half years at West Ham, scoring 23 goals in 203 appearances.

The club said in a statement: "Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Pablo for everything he has given to the Club during his time in Claret and Blue, and wish him and his family all the best for the future."

West Ham still busy

It's not just Said Benrahma trying to leave West Ham - Pablo Fornals is also in limbo at present.

The 27-year-old is hoping to join Real Betis, despite the window officially being closed. We will keep an eye on things.

Benrahma move to go through?

While Lyon have made some pointed comments to West Ham amid their FIFA appeal, it seems the winger could be on the way to France.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon, Lyon director general Laurent Prudhom said: “We have a message telling us that FIFA has accepted the validation of the TMS match for the transfer of Benrahma. Our efforts are bearing fruit!"

Why did Chelsea loan out Broja?

Pochettino has provided his verdict this afternoon on the deadline day move.

He said: "It is a very good opportunity for him to play maybe more. It's a good move for him and he can take the opportunity to play more.

The Blues boss believes the west London side have enough options up front: "I think it is important to recover Christoph [Nkunku] and today arrived Nico Jackson, and then also sometimes we forget but Deivid Washington is here with us. The options we have up front, I think, is enough."

Galatasaray to land Aurier

Despite a suggestion the deal could be off, it seems Serge Aurier will complete a move to Turkey today. Fabrizio Romano writers that an agreement is now in place between all parties and that Aurier insisted to make the move overnight.

Premier League move declined?

Reports suggest that David De Gea rejected a Premier League return last month. Nottingham Forest were in the market for a shotstopper and eventually landed Matz Sels, with Nuno Espirito Santo unconvinced by Matt Turner.

A guarantee of minutes was not enough to convince the Spaniard who remains a free agent.

Another Fulham move

It looks like Carlos Vinicius could depart to Turkey on loan following the arrival of Armando Broja at Craven Cottage.

The former Spurs loanee looks set to make a temporary move to Galatasaray.

Arsenal make multi-million pound deal

No, not a transfer but the move could certainly help fund one.

The Gunners' London Colney base has been renamed as the Sobha Realty Training Centre.

FIFA launch West Ham investigation

FIFA are investigating West Ham after they failed to sell Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals on deadline day.

Both Lyon and Real Betis, who had agreed deals to sign Benrahma and Fornals respectively, have accused the Premier League side of 'botching paperwork', per The Mail.

It remains to be seen if either deal can be salvaged at this point.

Galatasaray resurrect Aurier deal

Turkish giants Galatasaray are trying again to do a deal for Serge Aurier.

The Nottingham Forest right-back was the subject of interest on deadline day before the deal fell flat.

However, the Turkish transfer deadline isn't until next week - and reports have outlined that talks between the two parties are back on.

Moyes on Benrahma drama

David Moyes has had his say on the collapse of Said Benrahma's move to Lyon.

It seemed as though a deal had been done for the former Brentford winger to head to Ligue 1, however, an administrative issue means Benrahma could now stay put.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday morning, Moyes said: "It looks like there have been some problems with the paperwork [for Benrahma] at the last minute. But I only learned about it when I came off the pitch late last night"

Transfer window: winners and losers

In a January window which lacked big moves, the big winners are probably clubs lower down the Premier League.

The likes of Brentford and Bournemouth have kept hold of Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke respectively despite interest from big clubs.

The fact that we're looking at that as a win probably sums up the window as a whole, really.

In terms of losers? Arsenal needed a striker really, didn't they? I just don't see them winning the league with Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus leading the line.

Bergvall set for Spurs medical

Tottenham are set to beat Barcelona to the signing of Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall, who is due to undergo a medical.

Normally there are always a couple of rogue deals which have flown under the radar in the final knockings of deadline day.

However, this year the pickings are quite slim.

There could still be some to come though (it's only half eight - even if some of us have been up for four hours)...

Reading avoid deadline day firesale

Crisis club Reading managed to keep hold of key trio Femi Azeez, Harvey Knibbs and Sam Smith on deadline day.

The League One outfit have been sold a host of talent this month as absent owner Dai Yongge continues to hamper the club.

Plymouth Argyle were interested in Azeez and tried to do a deal, but the Royals stood firm.

Lyon to launch Benrahma appeal

Lyon will lodge an official appeal to try and salvage their deal to sign Said Benrahma.

That's according to reports flying around this morning.

Will a resolution be found? Appeals against admin errors haven't always been successful in the past.

Lingard set for FC Seoul move

Don't call it a comeback...but Jesse Lingard is close to making a comeback in South Korea.

The former Manchester United winger has been a free agent since leaving Nottingham Forest in the summer.

But per Sky Sports, he's verbally agreed a two-year deal with K-League outfit FC Seoul.

ICYMI: Lyon take aim at Hammers

Lyon are really unhappy about the collapse of their deal to sign Said Benrahma.

They've released a spiky statement, accusing West Ham of "incomprehensible behaviour" and blaming them for not completing the paperwork, despite constant reminders.

"Olympique Lyonnais deeply regrets this situation and this decision, demonstrating a deep lack of respect on the part of West Ham for the Institution and the player," Lyon said in a statement.

"The club reserves the right to initiate all appropriate procedures necessary to validate the operation later, and to hold West Ham accountable if necessary."
