Everything coming to Disney Plus in February - including latest MCU movie
There are plenty of reasons to fall in love with Disney Plus this February, thanks to a packed line-up of movies and shows ranging from the latest Marvel blockbuster to the final series of a popular Star Wars show.
Part of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), The Marvels sees Brie Larson return as Captain Marvel after Avengers: Endgame, alongside Teyonah Parris as WandaVision's Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel. Hollywood legend Samuel L Jackson also resumes his role as Nick Fury, hot on the heels of TV series Secret Invasion.
The latest instalment in the ever-expanding MCU franchise has Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, successfully retrieving her identity from the oppressive Kree forces after having meted out her revenge against the Supreme Intelligence. Yet unforeseen repercussions compel her to bear the weight of a universe thrown into turmoil.
As her responsibilities lead her through an anomalous wormhole associated with a Kree uprising, her abilities intertwine with those of two other superheroes, giving rise to the emergence of The Marvels - Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani); and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). An intriguing tale that'll keep you guessing, it drops on Disney Plus on February 7.
Do you remember the classic feudal Japan series Shōgun, with Richard Chamberlain from 1980? This tantalising remake, based on James Clavell’s 1975 best-selling book, offers a fresh take on the tale - weaving a story encompassing themes of love, honour, culture, and power.
Harrison Ford calls co-star Helen Mirren "still sexy" and a "remarkable actress"Shōgun tells the intrepid story of John Blackthorne, an English sailor who finds himself stranded near the Izu Peninsula on Japan's southwestern coast. In this unfamiliar land, shaped by power struggles among noble houses competing to attain the coveted title of Shōgun, Blackthorne becomes entwined in a world of political intrigue. Taken into the household of Lord Toronaga, he bears witness to the rise of his new 'master' and the complicated palace machinations that accompany it.
Loosely inspired by the historical ascent of Shōgun Tokugawa Leyasu in the 1600s, the saga draws parallels to the real-life story of William Adams, the shipwrecked advisor, who not only became the first Englishman to set foot in Japan but also the first to become a samurai. A ripping yarn that'll doubtless have you hooked, Shōgun drops on February 27.
Elsewhere we have Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, which follows on from the cliffhanger story of Omega getting captured at the end of season 2. Will her family be able to save her? Only one way to find out, and that's to tune in on February 21 to watch the drama unfold.
