A child who was missing has been found dead in a body of water in Chatham County, Georgia.

The 19-month-old boy reported missing earlier today from a home in the 1100 block of Bob White Road, was found deceased near the home.

The Chatham County Police Department received a call at 11:52am from family members who were caring for the child, reporting that they were unable to locate him. A search operation kicked off to locate the child.

The Chatham County Police Department’s Marine Patrol, Criminal Investigations Division, and Forensics Drone Operator rushed to the scene. The Savannah Police Department and the Statesboro Police Department also took part in the search.

A massive search operation unfolded with drone operators, divers, and a mounted patrol unit actively participating. Chaplain Services from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office were also present to offer support during this challenging time.

The situation took a tragic turn when, at 12:56pm, a member of the Chatham County Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division spotted the child in the water near the residence. The officer entered the water and retrieved the child. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported the child to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

According to the police, the child is believed to have wandered off, and there are no indications of foul play. The Chatham County Police Department has announced that no further information will be released regarding the case.

The news of the boy's discovery comes hours after an Amber Alert was issued for an 8-year-old girl who is believed to be in grave or immediate danger from Austin, Texas. Layken Stokes was last seen in Taylor, which is about 26 miles northeast of the Texas city, on Wednesday night, and she has not been seen or heard from since.

The police are asking the public for assistance in tracking her down. She was last seen wearing a purple tank top and blue and white plaid pants, and she had temporary tattoos on her arms and was also carrying a white and blue blanket, it was reported. She's 4ft 8ins tall and weighs 89lbs and is described as having blonde hair and blue eyes.
