Bruce Springsteen's mother Adele dead at 98
Bruce Springsteen's mother, Adele, has died at 98 years old.
The musician broke the news on Instagram, sharing that Adele had passed away on Wednesday as he posted a sweet video of her dancing with his father. In the post, he reminisced on the sweet memories he had of his mother as a child.
He wrote: "I remember in the morning mom hearing your alarm clock ring. I’d lie in bed and listen to you getting ready for work, the sound of your makeup case on the sink. And the ladies at the office all lipstick, perfume and rustling skirts, how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work.

It ain’t no house on the hill with a garden and a nice little yard. I’ve got my hot rod down on Bond Street I’m older but you’ll know me in a glance. We’ll find us a Little rock ‘n roll bar and we’ll go out and dance."

Bruce's followers rushed to offer their condolences. Radio DJ Ben Jones commented: "Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. You dancing on stage with your mom in London back in 2013 was a moment of pure joy. She was proud of you, you were proud of her and we ALL revelled in the love and affection."
CBS journalist Vladimir Duthiers wrote: "I’ll never forget the morning after I saw you perform in Paris, I happened to be walking by your hotel when she came out right before you did and waved….I loved how she often traveled with you and the band. What a class act." Actor Chad Lowe added: "So sorry for you loss. All of Springsteen nation shares your pain."
Tributes have been pouring in from fans (Tribune News Service via Getty Images)Adele's cause of death is yet to be announced. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, something Bruce spoke about during one of his shows. He said it was Adele's love of music which influenced him growing up.
"My mother loves to dance. She grew up in the '40s [with] the big bands and the swing bands, and that was a time when dancing was an existential act," he said back in 2021.
Bruce added: "She's 95 and she's 10 years into Alzheimer's and that’s taken a lot away from us. But the need to dance hasn't left her." At the time, the singer said his mother couldn't speak or feed herself, but said she still recognised him.
"When she sees me, there is always a smile. Still a smile. And there's still a kiss," Bruce told the audience. And there's a sound which she makes when she sees me. It's just the sound but I know it means 'I love you'. And when I put on Glen Miller and she starts moving in her chair — she does, she does — she starts reaching out for me, to take her in my arms once more and to dance with her across the floor."
He added: "This is an essential part of mom’s spirt, it’s who she is. It’s beyond language and it’s more powerful than memory. It’s the embodiment. This is what she has put her trust in and lived her life by and which, despite all she has suffered, she carries on with to this moment, as if life’s beauty never deserted her. I love her."
