Bayern Munich have beaten Manchester United and a number of Premier League rivals to the signing of Swedish sensation Jonah Kusi-Asare.

The 16-year-old forward, who has been likened in his homeland to Newcastle's Alexander Isak, has completed a move to the German giants.

Kusi-Asare, who stands 6ft 5in, has been watched by scouts from across Europe since making his breakthrough at AIK Solna. Now he has sealed a deal to join Bayern, signing a long-term contract after they agreed an initial £4million transfer with his club.

He will initially join the club’s Under-19s squad and live at the club’s training base as he adapts to life in Germany. But Bayern hope that he can emerge as the long-term successor to England captain Harry Kane.

“Jonah Kusi-Asare is a young striker with enormous potential,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund. “He had a few offers, but he consciously chose FC Bayern because we were able to convince him how we wanted to build and develop him with us.

“He has all the requirements, is technically strong, fast, tall, physically very robust even at a young age and has an excellent goal finisher. We are very pleased that he will play for FC Bayern in the future.”

Jochen Sauer, Director of Youth Development: “Jonah made his debut for Solna in Sweden's first division when he was just 16 years old and is already very advanced for his age. We believe in his potential and are pleased that he will take the next steps in his development together with us.”

Kusi-Asare had played only four senior games in his homeland, but had scouts flocking to youth games - particularly after scoring a hat-trick on his debut for Sweden’s Under-17 side.

Speaking to Bayern’s official website, he said: “It's an indescribable feeling. I am very happy to now be at what I consider to be the biggest club in the world and to have signed here. It’s a special day for me.

“In the coming weeks I would like to settle in here in Munich as quickly as possible. I’m looking forward to the first training sessions and want to continually improve.”
