Man Utd transfer news live - PSG plot Rashford move as Mourinho wants return

Manchester United have now come to the penultimate day of the January transfer window.

So far this winter, the main focus has been on exits and a whole host of stars have already departed Old Trafford. There could well be more.

Marcus Rashford remains a huge topic of conversation after his disciplinary matter. Paris Saint-Germain could potentially offer him a late Red Devils' exit option.

Elsewhere, the likes of Raphael Varane and Casemiro all remain linked with late moves away. Should any of the trio be sold, then the Red Devils could potentially swoop for a host of their major targets including Joshua Zirkzee or Michael Olise, who seems up for a switch to Old Trafford.

With all that being said, stay tuned for all the latest news from Manchester United:

ICYMI: Murtough's role to be downgraded

Manchester United football director John Murtough won't have as big of a say at the club once Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes his structural shake-up.

Murtough, 53, has been with the Red Devils since November 2013 but Ratcliffe and his INEOS colleagues are set to hire a sporting director who'll assume some of the Mancunian's duties.

Pellistri's agent hits out at Ten Hag

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri is on the verge of completing a half-season loan move to Granada - but it's his agent making headlines.

Speaking to Sport 890, Edgardo Lasalvia claimed: "Erik ten Hag hasn't used him, valued him, or treated him like a professional. He has a loan that the boy decided to go on. All of Manchester knew Ten Hag summoned him against a fourth division team and he didn't use him."

The 22-year-old Uruguayan was an unused substitute against Newport County on Sunday.

Team spirit

In the absence of any tangible transfer news, Ten Hag was also speaking about the team's spirit and how that links to their best days and worst days.

"We are quite confident and on our best days we can beat anyone. On our worst days, we go down to certain limits of what is not acceptable so we have to push our limits to high levels and on our worst days get our results in," he said.

"Everyone in the squad is very convinced about this. They know players are coming back from long-term injuries and the team will be stronger, it helps the motivation and it helps the mood and the spirit of the team."

Team news

Andre Onana is expected to reclaim his place between the posts for tomorrow night's game against Wolves at Molineux, with Erik ten Hag all but confirming the goalkeeper's return in his pre-match press conference.

But Ten Hag remains without midfielder Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia because of injuries.

Berbatov sends Hojlund advice

Dimitar Berbatov has urged Rasmus Hojlund to tell his Manchester United team-mates to 'give me the f***ing ball' as he struggles to make his mark at Old Trafford.

The striker has scored just two goals in the Premier League since United paid £72million to sign him in the summer window. He was able to get on the scoresheet as the Red Devils beat League Two Newport on Sunday, though that only came in the 94th minute.

Despite his struggles, the Dane has retained his place in United's starting line-up. And Red Devils icon Berbatov has now insisted Hojlund is not totally to blame for his failures in front of goal.

Instead, the two-time Premier League winner believes that United's wingers need to start pulling their weight. Berbatov specifically pointed the finger at Antony and Alejandro Garnacho, who have just two assists in the top-flight between them this term.

"Antony and Garnacho are not providing much for Rasmus Hojlund at the minute, are they? I saw frustration in Hojlund in the last match. I saw Hojlund making runs and the ball was not coming to him. This is how football is sometimes," he told Betfair.

Casemiro's stance on Ten Hag's future

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro believes Erik ten Hag is the person to see the Red Devils continue to progress.

The Dutch manager's place in the Old Trafford hotseat has come under scrutiny with his team having been knocked out of the Champions League and currently sitting ninth in the Premier League. It has been a disappointing second season for the 53-year-old who guided United to a Carabao Cup win last term.

Casemiro joined the club just months after his boss, with Ten Hag describing him as the 'cement between the stones' for his side. The Brazilian international made his return from injury in Manchester United's FA Cup win over Newport, having not featured since October and could prove crucial to the team turning around their fortunes.

The 31-year-old, who has five Champions League titles to his name, believes the steps the club took last season show ten Hag's credentials. He admits they need to show more however.

"I’m not the person who decides who should be manager,” the former Real Madrid ace told CNN, “We have qualified people to decide that but [Ten Hag] showed last season he can grow Manchester United.”

Ten Hag issues Rashford demand

Erik ten Hag has reminded Manchester United's players of the need for discipline off the pitch after Marcus Rashford's latest off-field indiscretion, writes David McDonnell.

Rashford was dropped from United's 4-2 FA Cup win at Newport on Sunday, after calling in sick for training on Friday, having been out at a Belfast nightclub until the early hours. United issued a statement on Monday, stating Rashford had “taken responsibility for his actions” after an internal disciplinary process, with the striker back in training and available for selection.

The England striker is understood to have been fined two weeks' wages – around £700,000 – with United boss en Hag issuing a broader warning in the wake of Rashford's ill-advised escapade. “So he has taken responsibility and for the rest it's an internal matter,” said Ten Hag. “Case closed.”

Asked if Rashford's conduct pointed to lack of respect towards him, Ten Hag said: “It's nothing to do with that but let's focus on the game, let's move on. The statement is clear and we have to focus on winning football games.”

Sancho told Man Utd career is over

Harry Redknapp believes Jadon Sancho will never play for Manchester United again as lon as Erik ten Hag remains manager following their public falling out.

"I can't see Jadon Sancho coming back to Manchester United whilst Erik ten Hag is in charge," Redknapp told BetVictor. "It looks like he's burnt his bridges with him and they obviously don't really fancy Sancho as a player.

"It is difficult to say whether Ten Hag is actually the right man for Manchester United. You're judged on results, week by week, and three or four bad results can put you in real trouble – that's the way the game's gone. You come under pressure so quickly."

Man Utd sent Olise warning

Manchester United have been warned that a move for Michel Olise would land them another Wilfried Zaha.

Olise has starred for Crystal Palace since arriving from Reading three years ago. The attacker has impressed this season, scoring six goals and notching three assists in 10 games, during what has been a frustrating campaign for the Eagles.

They are currently in the bottom half of the table, having won just six games, with Roy Hodgson's job under pressure. And the London side are bracing for the departure of Olise, with Mirror Football previously reporting the Red Devils are ready to activate his release clause.

That release clause stands at £60million, with United keen to make him one of the first signings of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era. The billionaire is desperate to spark life into the Red Devils, with Olise having already been marked out as a top target.

But former United star Alan Smith believes a move for the 22-year-old would be repeating the mistakes they have committed before. He warned his old side that they should not rush into any deals this month and instead prepare a strategy for the summer.

Man Utd staff 'not surprised' by Rashford saga

Staff at Manchester United have been left unsurprised by Marcus Rashford's latest run-in with manager Erik ten Hag.

The striker is understood to have been fined two weeks' wages after being pictured partying in Belfast last week, before reporting ill to his club. Rashford missed last Friday's training session and the FA Cup win over Newport on Sunday.

But it later emerged the England international had been on a 12-hour tequila-fuelled bender in the Northern Ireland capital. That led to crisis talks between Rashford, Ten Hag and football director John Murtough on Monday.

Rashford has now been disciplined for his behaviour, with the player back in the frame for selection for Thursday's clash with Wolves. While United have insisted the matter has been dealt with, Rashford has been causing concern to club chiefs for some time.

According to The Sun, staff at United began to grow worried over his 'party lifestyle' back in the autumn of 2021. Concerns were raised about the attacker enjoying boozy nights out and holding rowdy parties at his house.

Brobbey hailed

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey and former Premier League midfielder Bolo Zenden believes he "could really add to the squad".

"He is a very strong player who really uses his pace," Zenden told Betway. "He puts himself in a goalscoring position with ease, which is helpful when you’re a striker!

"He would suit the Premier League, but will he be the main man? I think you can only tell once you’ve experienced it. I can see why Ten Hag is after Brobbey, he could really add to the squad."

Casemiro lifts lid on Ratcliffe meeting

Casemiro admits that he has been impressed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe after the Ineos chief met with several Manchester United players.

The British billionaire, 71, and his team have taken control of sporting operations at Old Trafford while they wait for their £1.25billion agreement for a 25 per cent stake in the club to be formally ratified.

Ineos have already convinced Manchester City 's Omar Berrada to become their new chief executive offer - although he is not expected to officially start his new role until the summer - and further changes are expected in the coming months.

Ratcliffe has also met manager Erik ten Hag and members of the playing squad in recent weeks as the new regime continue to do their due diligence and Casemiro, 31, believes his "winning mentality" is exactly what the club needs to get back on track.

Kubo interest

United are interested in making a move for Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo. The Japanese winger moved to the La Liga club from Real Madrid, where he failed to make an appearance, and continues to shine.

This term he's come up with five goals and registered four assists for Sociedad, which follows on from a productive debut season at the club which saw him score nine times and add a further nine assists. The Spanish side could yet lose Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal and will be determined not to see a mass exodus.

Kubo was only signed for £5.5m however and could represent a massive profit if United did come knocking. The club's wide players have struggled in the final third this term and Ten Hag could pursue alternatives, but a summer move is most likely.

Ten Hag told Rashford has "no respect" for him

Chris Sutton has torn into Marcus Rashford and accused the Manchester United striker of having 'no respect' for manager Erik ten Hag after his trip to a nightclub in Belfast last week.

The England star, 26, is alleged to have gone on a '12-hour drinking session' after travelling to Northern Ireland to visit a former teammate last week before reporting ill for training. He subsequently missed United's 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup on Sunday.

United released a statement on Monday morning outlining that Rashford had "taken responsibility for his actions" and that the "internal disciplinary matter" was now closed.

That hasn't prevented a backlash from pundits, though, with several question Rashford's attitude, including Sutton. Speaking on the It's All Kicking Off podcast, he suggests that Rashford believes he will outlast Ten Hag at Old Trafford before branding his behaviour as "utterly disgraceful".

Man Utd handed Branthwaite boost

Man United's chances of signing Jarrd Branthwaite might be set to improve with the Toffees already potentially looking for his replacement.

According to reports, Everton are interested in Leicester star Harry Souttar. There is still plenty of work to do on any deal however.

Souttar only penned a long-term deal with Leicester 12 months ago, while he is currently away on Asia Cup duty with Australia. It could be set to go all the way to the deadline.

The Ivorian winger enjoyed last season in the north east, helping Sunderland reach the play-off semi-finals with a string of superb performances.

ICYMI: Neville offers Rashford advice

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has told Marcus Rashford to be better at picking his moments when it comes to enjoying a night out.

Rashford, 26, has been fined two weeks' worth of wages - amounting to around £650,000 - after missing United's FA Cup clash with Newport County on Sunday following a boozy jaunt in Belfast last Thursday.

Neville told BBC Breakfast this morning: "Marcus himself knows, he's an experienced player, we're not talking about a young lad. But he has done it a couple of times in the last few months. I've always seen Marcus as really responsible, a good professional, someone who works hard every single day.

"He's going through a dip in form at the moment... but it can become your personality if you're not careful. If you do it too many times people can start to say 'what's happening in his lie'. He just needs to relax and calm down."

Rashford is expected to be available for selection at Wolves on Thursday.
