Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden tells co-star 'I love you' in emotional post

Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden has shown his love for co-star Roxy Shahidi during her Dancing On Ice journey.

Despite leaving his role as David Metcalfe on the ITV soap last year, he remains close to his former cast members. Roxy, known for playing Leyla Harding in Emmerdale, is currently competing in Dancing On Ice. Matthew was among several Emmerdale stars who cheered her on over the weekend. He joined Amy Walsh, Laura Norton and Sammy Winward in the audience. Dancing On Ice's official Instagram posted a photo of them with the caption: "Our star-studded audience never disappoints!"

Roxy reposted the photo on her Instagram, writing: "Love these guys so much." Matthew, who won the competition in 2012, also shared the photo on his Instagram Stories, telling Roxy: "I love you pal." According to The Sun, Roxy had previously turned down Dancing On Ice. She confessed: "I wanted to do the show nearly seven years ago. I thought it'd be fabulous, lots of sequins and big hair. But then I realised I was 12 weeks pregnant."

Roxy shared: "I didn't know when I originally had the meeting, so I then had to say 'Oh look, I'm pregnant, I don't think it's going to be a good idea for me'. Then my daughter was small, and it's a huge commitment, it's very demanding. But I just knew for a long time it wasn't really something that would be right for me to do."

It comes after Roxy shared the reason she signed up for the upcoming series of Dancing On Ice. The 40-year-old star is best known for her role as Leyla Harding on the soap. She first appeared as the character in 2008. A few months ago, Roxy was announced as one of the many stars.

Roxy joining the show was announced on Steph's Packed Lunch in early October. Appearing on the show, she said: "I’m an actor hiding behind a character that's where I'm most comfortable. Being yourself out there on the ice with no character to hide behind is really scary for me. I’d say that’s the scariest element for me."

Recently, she revealed why she chose to join the show. She said: "I just wanted a new kitchen. In all seriousness, it's an adventure. I've been in Emmerdale for so long and I absolutely love it but I think it's good for your mind to do something different and it feels like a little adventure. I was more excited about it before I actually signed my contract then I just became incredibly scared because I realise how dangerous is it.

"As soon as you get on the ice and you start to learn you realise how little you know and how hard it's going to be. Now I'm starting to skate independently, there's a new lease of life and a little bit of excitement bubbling up now."
