We've all gotten heated over parking at least once in our lifetimes.

Whether someone has parked in your favourite spot at the supermarket, or you've found yourself unable to get out of your driveway because of an inconsiderate motorist who's parked over your drop kerb, parking rows are a common occurrence in everyday life. One mum, however, was left gobsmacked when she was accused of parking like an "absolute idiot" in a rude note placed on her car windscreen while she was visiting a friend.

Shannon Kain, 30, parked up behind a line of other cars in the leafy West Yorkshire village of Holmbridge, and when she returned to her car, there was a note tucked under her windscreen wiper. The supermarket customer assistant didn't read the note until she was able to park elsewhere and was gobsmacked when she saw what it said.

The angry message claimed Shannon had parked "like an absolute idiot" and accused her of blocking emergency vehicles, despite her being lined up with other cars. And the mum has now defended her parking job, saying it wasn't her car that was the problem.

She said: "I went to visit my friend and she lives in a little village in this absolutely beautiful area full of lovely people. It's quite posh, so you don't expect stuff like that up there. The little cul-de-sac is quite busy for parking. I was looking for a parking spot outside my friend's spot but two other people were parked there. I found a spot a bit further down the road and I thought 'you know what I'll just pull in here and I'll walk'.

"When I first started driving [away] I saw something flickering under my windscreen wiper and I said 'What's that? That wasn't on my car earlier'. I said [to my friend] 'Don't get out here because you see all those posts on Facebook where you get people who are trying to rob cars and they wait for you to get out and have a look'. We went round the corner, my friend got out of the car and got it for me. Once we'd parked up we were like 'oh my God, I can't believe it'."

Shannon insisted she had checked her parking job when she first got out of her vehicle and was "quite happy" with it, so couldn't understand the angry note she'd received. She added: "Mine was on the right parked behind everyone else's, about two to three inches from the kerb, the person on the other side of the road was all the way out. That car wasn't there when I parked up, I hadn't double parked.

"I think they were trying to make a point with how annoyed they were with it being all in capitals. I'm quite thick-skinned, I'm not someone who lets things bother me that much. I just thought it was really horrible."

The mum got her own back on the anonymous note-leaver with her own petty post on Facebook, where she called out the other motorist for incorrectly spelling "emergency". She argued she isn't "inconsiderate" and wrote: "If you have a problem please feel free to message me! And while you're at it grab a dictionary too and learn how to spell EMERGENCY before you leave notes on other people's property … because now you look even more stupid."

She also explained: "I'd say to whoever wrote it, I'd think twice about being hypocritical. They're talking about being considerate, but they're not being considerate themselves. It's not going to make me think twice about how I park in future. mainly because I didn't think it was a 'me' issue."
