The family of Mason Rist has begged the public for help catching his killers.

The schoolboy, 15, was murdered in the street in suburban Bristol alongside his childhood friend Max Dixon, 16, in what is feared to be a case of mistaken identity. It is a double tragedy for the loving family who lost their dad Shayne to Covid in 2021.

In a moving tribute posted amongst the flowers, pictures and cards at the scene today (Tues) his family appealed for information and paid tribute to his short life.

The statement read:“If anyone has information please, we beg, inform the police! Until the people have been caught we cannot get justice. Mason you are the best thing that happened to our family and we miss you so much it hurts. We can’t cope without you and can’t wait to see you again. You are so strong and brave, we love you so much. Love Mum, brother and sister, reunited with dad.”

The community in Knowle West is still coming to terms with the deaths of the two school friends who were attacked on Saturday night by a group of people who fled the scene in a car.

One witness, who did not want to be named, told The Mirror the attack seemed targeted. She said: “They knew exactly what they were doing, it was brutal. They went straight for them with what looked like machetes but there is no way on Earth they got the right lads. I can’t get it out of my head.”

Meanwhile, a fundraiser to give two teenage boys stabbed to death in Bristol the ‘send off they deserve’ has already raised thousands of pounds. Tributes poured in for the boys who some neighbours said yesterday were innocent victims of a ‘postcode lottery.’ Four suspects, including three men, 44, 22, and 20, and a 15-year-old boy, have been arrested for murder and remain in police custody.

A GoFundMe page has now been set up by Max’s auntie Christine Fothergill to raise money to help the families with funeral costs. It has already raised nearly £5,000 since being made live on Sunday - half of its £10,000 target -with nearly 300 individual donations.

On the page, Christine writes: “I would like to raise money for Max and Mason, both boys died last night in Bristol though being stabbed age 16 and 15. All money will go towards both families to help with fthe uneral cost of any donations would be grateful thank you.”

Among the tributes left on the page was one which said: “Max you will be missed so much, that cheeky grin of yours. (We) will never forget the many memories. Fly high. Another read: “Sending love and prayers to Max and Mason’s family and friends, we’re all thinking of them.”
