Prince Harry's baffles fans as he sings Elton John song in Spare audiobook
Prince Harry is many things, but he is not a professional singer. So it should be no great surprise fans have been left baffled by his decision to sing in his audiobook.
One went so far as to share their shock on Twitter after listening to the clip in The Duke of Sussex's memoir, Spare.
Released January 10, the book includes a number of unprecedented claims about the royal family. The author also shares insight into his heartbreak over the loss of his mother at such at early age.
It is during one such recollection of the years since his mother's death that the Prince delivers the performance that has since gone viral online.
In one of many heartbreaking confessions in the book, Princess Diana's youngest son shares how he felt on the tenth anniversary of her death.
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'Together with his brother, Prince William, the author organised a concert in his mum's honour. The fundraiser went on to raise £1.2m for charity, and it was attended by a number of A-list celebrity entertainers.
But there was one particular performance that "swept away" the brothers, as Prince Harry recalls in his book.
Elton John gave a moving performance in tribute to his late friend, Princess Diana. However, he turned down a request to sing 'Candle in the Wind', according to Prince Harry.
Not wanted to be morbid, as per the Prince's explanation, he instead chose, 'Your Song'.
In the book, Prince Harry shares a few of the lyrics from the song. The passage reads: "I hope you don't mind / That I put down in words / How wonderful life is while you're in the world."
However, when it came to narrating his audiobook, the Prince decided to deliver the lines with a flourish. As captured in the viral clip, he sings the words rather than simply reading them - a choice that has delighted and confused many in equal measure.
@Joelle_o who, who highlighted the unexpected delivery on Twitter, wrote: "This is why I always say get the audiobook for memoirs. Otherwise you'll miss random gems like this… why did he feel the need to do this??"
In response, many were quick to share their agreement. "This is amazing!!" said one person. "Lol! I chuckled while listening to this part. Definitely glad he did," wrote another fan of Prince Harry's singing. "That just convinced me to get the audiobook," agreed a third.
Unfortunately, not everyone was so impressed. "I just cringed so hard I think I sprained something," said one critic. Someone else commented: "Harold pls." Meanwhile, one reader left on the fence replied: "All these clips people are posting on Twitter are giving me life. I can’t tell if I hate it or… is it so bad it's good? Do I actually love it?"
Buckingham and Kensington Palaces have refused to comment on the contents of the book, which hit the shelves earlier this week.
