Chris Sutton has torn into Marcus Rashford and accused the Manchester United striker of having 'no respect' for manager Erik ten Hag after his trip to a nightclub in Belfast last week.

The England star, 26, is alleged to have gone on a '12-hour drinking session' after travelling to Northern Ireland to visit a former teammate last week before reporting ill for training. He subsequently missed United's 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup on Sunday.

United released a statement on Monday morning outlining that Rashford had "taken responsibility for his actions" and that the "internal disciplinary matter" was now closed.

That hasn't prevented a backlash from pundits, though, with several question Rashford's attitude, including Sutton. Speaking on the It's All Kicking Off podcast, he suggests that Rashford believes he will outlast Ten Hag at Old Trafford before branding his behaviour as "utterly disgraceful".

He wrote: "Marcus Rashford is like a good few Manchester United players at this moment in time. He thinks he’s untouchable. This hasn’t been the first time where he’s had a misdemeanour. It’s been continuous. He has no respect for the manager and no respect for his teammates. That’s the bottom line.

"He’s probably thinking he is going to outlast Ten Hag anyway but he’s out of control as far as I can see. He is 26 now, Marcus Rashford. He has such a lack of respect for the manager. He’s making his feelings quite clear, isn’t he?

"I feel sorry for Ten Hag, but essentially we know which way this is going to go. Ten Hag will eventually end up leaving and Rashford will stay on and all the Manchester United fans further down the line will love Marcus again because he’s ‘Manchester United through and through’. But his actions have been utterly disgraceful."

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville also spoke out against Rashford's behaviour and urged the forward to calm down during an appearance on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday morning.

He said: "That happened quite a bit when I was at the club. Going out for a drink and night out is something most football players should do and will do. I've got no problem with that but it's about choices and timing.

"I said this after the Man City game, we got beat at home. I think he went out that night to China White I think for his birthday and we had a game against Newcastle on the Wednesday in the Carabao Cup and I said look, choose your time.

"I think Manchester United had just had a winter break and a couple of weeks off so there was a better moment for him to choose to go out."
