With just a few days to go until the end of the January transfer window, EFL clubs are scrambling to get those all-important last minute deals over the line.

Clubs have until 11pm on February 1 to complete their transfer business, with late deals potentially being the difference between success and failure this season.

With that in mind, here is the latest EFL transfer notebook along with analysis from our EFL72 team. You can also sign-up to our daily EFL newsletter below.

Chelsea join Wharton race

The Sun are reporting that Chelsea have joined the race to sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton. Fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace have been in negotiations to sign the 19-year-old this month but have yet to meet Blackburn's valuation of £25m.

It is understood that Chelsea's sporting director Paul Winstanley was in attendance last week to watch the midfielder, who signed a new five-year deal at Ewood Park last month. It's believed a loan clause could be inserted into a potential deal and see Wharton return to the club for the rest of the season.

Palace are said to be reluctant to go higher than their current bid of £18.5m including add-ons, as Blackburn hold out for a more substantial bid.

EFL72 says:“It's no surprise to see Wharton attracting more Premier League suitors and you would imagine it is a matter of time until he leaves for the top flight - but will that be this month or in the summer? A move to Chelsea seems great on paper but might not be the best in the long-term given their recent transfer struggles.”

Boro reject third Rogers bid

Aston Villa's pursuit of Middlesbrough winger Morgan Rogers has taken another hit after a third bid was rejected by the Teesside club. The Telegraph report that Unai Emery's side submitted a bid in the region of £7.5m, having already been rebuffed on two previous occasions this month - with Birmingham Live claiming the bid was worth up to double that at around £15m.

The 21-year-old has outlined his intention to leave Boro for the Premier League, despite only joining this summer from Manchester City for just £1.5m. Michael Carrick's side are said to want a double-figure bid for Rogers, with Villa now set to face a race against time to agree a deal before Thursday's deadline.

EFL72 says:“Villa have made it clear that Rogers is one of their top targets in this window and continue to tempt Middlesbrough into a sale. However, Boro have that valuation set and will not want to lose one of their key assets this late into the month for a low fee. We'd expect Villa to continue to push for this one but it could ultimately come down to time and be pushed back to the summer.”

Clarke not for sale

Sunderland have made their stance clear over the future of star man Jack Clarke, stating that the winger is not for sale this month. Fabrizio Romano claims that the 23-year-old has been subject to interest from Italian club Lazio, with the Black Cats rejecting an offer of 16 million Euros (£13.6m).

It is believed that a deal for the winger in the summer would cost around 30 million Euros (£25.5m) but the club plan on keeping him if they were to be promoted to the Premier League.

EFL72 says:“Arguably the most-wanted asset in the Championship right now, Sunderland will no doubt be making it their top priority to make sure Clarke remains at the Stadium of Light until at least the summer. However, big bids are starting to come in and it may get to that point where an offer becomes too good to refuse for both the player and club."

Bolton could win 'shock' race

Bolton could beat Championship promotion chasers Leeds and Sunderland to the signing of Liverpool full-back Calvin Ramsay, according to reports. The 20-year-old spent a portion of last season on-loan at Preston and is believed to be receiving interest for the rest of this campaign.

A move to the League One title challengers would be seen as a 'shock' for the Reds youngster, who looked set to be on his way to the second tier again this month. Leeds had previously shown interest in Ramsay earlier on in this window, having been linked with a number of right-backs following several first-team departures.

Leicester's Sensi struggle

The story of Leicester and Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi has been a constant so far in this window but it appears a deal could yet fall through. Sky Sports report that although the Foxes are said to be close to a potential move, certain financial aspects could become an issue for Enzo Maresca's side.

The two clubs had reportedly been discussing a loan move for the 28-year-old but it is now believed that Inter would like to insert a clause for Leicester to buy him a permanent basis if they were promoted to the Premier League this season.

Blackpool in Wednesday offer

League One side Blackpool are reportedly in talks to sign Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers. TeamTALK report that the Owls could decide to cash in on a potential move this month, with Byers out of contract at Hillsborough at the end of the season.
