The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital via air ambulance with a serious gunshot injury to his face. Police said there were no further reports of injuries and armed police remain in the area while an investigation is ongoing to find anyone responsible.

Merseyside Constabulary are appealing for information to help trace the assailant. Pictures at the scene show it's heavily patrolled by officers this evening.
