The Masked Singer UK fans 'rumble' Maypole's identity and it's not Rita Ora

The Masked Singer UK fans are convinced they've rumbled Maypole's identity and it's not Rita Ora.

The show returned earlier this month, with panellists Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan back again on Saturday night, where they were joined by guest Ellie Goulding as they tried to work out the identity of the characters. Confirmed for the latest lineup on Saturday night were Air Fryer, Owl, Eiffel Tower, Piranha, Maypole, Cricket, Bigfoot and Dippy Egg.

So far, Bubble Tea has been revealed as Julia Sawalha, Rat was revealed to be Strictly Come Dancing legend Shirley Ballas, Chicken Caesar was unveiled as Alexander Armstrong while Weather was revealed as Dionne Warwick.

During the series, fans had been convinced that Maypole was in fact judge Rita, 33, due to the star being missing from a few episodes lately due to work commitments, speculating she could actually be the character in disguise.

However, this theory was debunked on Saturday night as the judge appeared on the panel while Maypole performed. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to share their theories, predicting it could be Pussycat Dolls star Melody Thornton, who appeared on The Masked Singer Australia in 2022.

One person said: "Now everyone can stop saying Maypole is Rita Ora considering she’s on the panel at the same time #MaskedSingerUK", a different account put: "Well Rita Ora isn't Maypole because she's judging tonight #MaskedSingerUK" while another added: "Wait just realised Rita is on the panel so she can’t be maypole #maskedsingeruk!"

Elsewhere, a different account put: "Melody Thornton as Maypole!? #MaskedSingerUK", a different fan wrote: "Maypole is Melody Thornton, the song clue is literally her name MELODY #MaskedSingerUK", another viewer wrote: "Maypole is Melody Thornton?? #maskedsingeruk #maskedsinger" while a different fan added: "Singing Sweet Melody by Little Mix makes me think Maypole is Melody Thornton #MaskedSingerUK!"

It comes as host Joel Dommett couldn’t wait for the show to start and previously said: "Honestly, they are the best costumes ever. If they don’t make you smile, well, get out! Air Fryer is unbelievably silly. It's so liberating to be a part of a show where first of all, people really enjoy it and also from my point of view, any idea I have, it's fair game. Even when it comes to the suits!

"I think we've definitely got some of the best vocalists we've ever had on the show and we've had some really incredible ones in the past. The show goes through an interesting meandering of, we are all here for all the new characters, but then maybe the better singers start to get through in the last rounds, usually the final. Let's be honest, it’s usually really incredible singers left at that point. This year I really do feel like we've got some of the best we've ever had."
