Shocking moment 'Just Eat' delivery rider caught cycling along busy M6 motorway
This is the shocking moment an alleged Just Eat delivery worker was caught cycling onto a busy motorway.
Any Brits living in cities are more than used to the sight of fast food delivery workers buzzing about the city on bikes. However, whilst they’re more common in traffic in the country’s cities, it’s illegal to take a bicycle onto a motorway or dual carriageway - and as such, should never happen.
That’s why one Brit was left shocked after seeing a Just East takeaway cyclist riding his bike along to the M6. The shocking incident took place on the motorway near Birmingham. Dashcam footage captured the jaw-dropping moment the orange-jacketed rider cycled up the slip road along the three-land motorway where the hard shoulder had been closed due to roadworks.
The dash cam driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, called the incident into the emergency services on Friday 26 January at 8pm. In the footage, the driver is heading down the slip road besides the motorway, getting ready to merge when the delivery cyclist is suddenly there alongside them.
It is thought the driver was delivering for Just Eat, due to the recognisable bright orange clothing on the bicycle. But Just Eat merchandise is often handed out to restaurants and is also available second hand - something the country have no control over.
Takeaway's savage response to customers who flooded them with fake ordersHe said: “I was driving North making my way onto the M6 from the Spaghetti Junction (Junction 6) and got ready to indicate onto the motorway when I saw a cyclist haplessly riding close to the edge. I came back to the nearside lane and beeped my horn at him to try and get him to stop, there was no opportunity for me to safely pull over so I called 999 and got the police to deal with it."
The driver continued, saying the rider "wouldn't have stood a chance ... He had front and rear lights and the smallest of helmets when I beeped, he looked around, he looked like he was in his mid to late 20's, but he was going about 10mph and wouldn’t have stood a chance against a 60mph lorry.
"I think he was on an electric bike and the battery had run out, god only knows why he opted to ride on the motorway though, maybe he had a death wish!"
The rider was seen in the rear view camera pulling towards the verge as the camera car continued along the freeway.
