The father of formerly conjoined twins Amie and Jamie, said the twins are "doing great" as the family celebrated a year since their successful separation.

Amie and Jamie were successfully separated on January 23, 2023, in a risky yet miraculous 11-hour surgery, performed by a team of 25 medical professionals, including six surgeons at Cook Children's Medical Center in Texas.

One year on, both girls are growing up happy and healthy. The Finley family has a sense of normalcy in their Arlington, Texas home, which is a big change from the challenges they faced when the twins were joined by their livers and chests.

James Finley and Amanda Arciniega already had three children when they found out they were expecting twins. However, during Amanda's pregnancy, they discovered that the twins were conjoined in the abdomen and shared a liver. This was a complex medical challenge that required special attention and care.

Months before the girls were born, a team of physicians and medical professionals at Cook Children’s Medical Center started meticulous planning and preparation. Finally, on January 23, 2023, Jamie and Amie became the first set of conjoined twins to undergo successful separation at the medical centre.

As a tribute to the girls' resilience and the medical team's achievement, Tarrant County Commissioner’s Court declared April 2023 as Jamie and Amie Day.

The twins celebrated their first birthday in October and now they are not only walking but also taking their first steps into language, uttering words like "Momma," "Dada," and even the name of the family dog, "Bubbles."

James, the father of the twins, talked about how their lives changed after the surgery that separated them one year ago. "I don't know how to describe it," James Finley told WFAA, reflecting on the past. "I just stayed faithful, through everything, the whole time," Finley remarked.

Detailing Amie's post-surgery challenges, Finley explained: "After the surgery, her heart would go over her windpipe, so her heart is actually on the right side instead of the left."

However, the heart is functioning optimally, and recently, both girls had their feeding tubes removed, marking another milestone in their recovery. Finley shared: "Aime is the kind, gentle soul, you can just see it in her eyes. And Jaime, she’s my little firecracker. I just hope they stick together, stay close, be sisters. I always tell them that."

The Finley twins' older brother also expressed his confidence in their future, stating: "They might even learn how to drive cars when they’re 18."
