Jay Blades' cryptic post about 'working on ourselves’ after David Jason row
The Repair Shop's Jay Blades has issued a cryptic message after a row with Sir David Jason.
Legendary actor Sir David is currently travelling up and down the country with Jay as part of BBC show David and Jay's Touring Toolshed. However, things soon became heated between the pair as Jay told the Only Fools and Horses star to "do one". It comes just days after it Sir David's feud with co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst reemerged.
Jay has since taken to his X - formerly Twitter - account to share a message. Alongside a photo of a sunrise, he wrote: "THOUGHT OF THE DAY We don’t stumble accidentally into an amazing life. It takes a decision. A commitment to consistently work on ourselves. #theroadislong."
During the latest episode of the Touring Toolshed, Jay found himself in the firing line after enrolling in a barrel-making course. Sir David instantly made a comment about Jay's skills as he embarked on the task. "Just remember we haven't got three days for this programme," he said.
Jay responded: "No, it's not gonna fall in! Listen, less of the verbal over there, alright?" However, the actor couldn't help himself and went on to say: "You should've been way down with your rings on the barrel by this time." Later on, an expert in barrel-making stepped in to help Jay, with Sir David instantly quipping: "Oh, you're having help from the professional..."
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessBut as Jay finished his barrel, which Sir David branded "wobbly" before ordering him to "pick it up", things soon became heated. "I'll tell you where I'll put my thumb in a minute if you don't stop talking," Jay fumed after Sir David instructed him to use his thumb to keep the barrel sturdy.
Jay was awarded a four out of ten for his attempt, which left him somewhat disappointed as he said: "The two of you can do one, I've had enough. I've had enough," before walking off set. Despite their clash, the series has been a hit with viewers so far.
Sir David's relationship with Only Fools and Horses co-star Nicholas has come under the spotlight recently. The pair staged a spat on the set of the iconic show. Sir David recalled: "We were all fed up because nothing was happening so [we] said 'why don't we stage a huge row and you can storm out and say you're leaving and I can shout at you saying don't you ever come back again'.
"I never want to work with you'. The whole crew went stiff. Five minutes went by and the producer and director came to see me and they were quaking in their boots. They asked what's going on and I told them to go see Nick. When they got to him, I couldn't contain myself any longer and roared with laughter. They went from white to purple in their faces. I don't think the producer was much impressed."
The actor said he "couldn't have had a better co-partner than Nic". However, the Del Boy star admitted to a relationship breakdown, with them no longer seeing each other much. Understandably, Nicholas has been largely out of the spotlight since his 20-year-old son suddenly died in 2020. Archie tragically suffered a brain haemorrhage caused by acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Speaking about their friendship, in 2022 David said: "He's much more, how can I say, self-contained, perhaps, than he used to be. So, unfortunately, we don't see each other as much as I would like to. But that's how things work out sometimes."
