Kylian Mbappe’s move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid in the summer could help Manchester United land Vinicius Junior.

Mbappe has long been expected to join Real once his PSG contract expires in June, and despite plenty of rumour and noise, that still looks very likely to happen. The 25-year-old striker has decided to waive a £69million loyalty bonus with PSG to move on, but negotiations with Real are dragging on, with their offer of €30m (£26.84m) per season not enough for Mbappe, who is reportedly demanding £60m per year and a signing-on bonus worth £107m.

Real president Florentino Perez has been pursuing Mbappe for years and remains determined to land him this summer, whatever the cost. The transfer could have widespread ramifications, including for United, who have been credited with interest in Vinicius.

Mbappe may be available on a free transfer this summer, but signing one of the best young players in the world is far from free. To afford the PSG star and make room in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, Real might have to wave goodbye to Vinicius, who plays in the same position and could fetch a big transfer fee.

Spanish newspaper Sport says Real have ‘already decided’ to offload Vinicius, because Perez doesn’t believe the Brazilian is good enough to be the face of the club in years to come. That is despite Vinicius contributing 69 goals and 68 assists in 243 games for the club and having signed a contract extension in October to keep him there until June 2027.

That reported desire to offload Vinicius could interest United, who have been tipped to splash £130m on the 23-year-old to make a statement signing following the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe. That certainly seems fanciful, given the fact that United currently sit eighth in the Premier League, 11 points off the top four places.

Then there is the fact that Vinicius has publicly stated he wants to stay with Real for the rest of his career before finishing up at Brazilian club Flamengo. "I think I could stay here my whole career, but the club of my life is Flamengo," he told France Football and L'Equipe last year. "I promised my father I would go back one day. I have to keep this promise.

HAVE YOUR SAY! What do you make of Manchester United's chances of landing Vinicius Junior? Comment below.

"I love life here in general, and it's going well for my family too. When my loved ones walk around, they are recognised and they wish us nothing but happiness. Little by little, I discovered this new life, new emotions, a fervour... Madrid is unique. Everyone around the world tells me about this club. And apart from that, I like it. I'm quite a homebody but we do a lot of activities."

If Mbappe does indeed arrive at Real in the summer, Ancelotti will have to find a way to accommodate him in the side alongside Vinicius.
